Moved - forum discussion on cars for sale, GTD for sale

Surely its clear that advertising for companies and people making money should be paid for, but, clearly Simon is not in this position and not working on behalf of a company. I can't see that in this case it should be an issue.

I know there can be a fine line between one thing and the other, but, there is also a feeling that over regulation can harm the community spirit of the site and alienate people. Simon has said exactly this before, and its a major problem on other forums, where it can get close to bullying. I guess there is no way to please everyone with this issue, and for Ron its a symptom of the problems of making money out of community websites like this. It might look to some like you are trying hard to squeeze payment from everyone for your benefit and not the benefit of the community. Very difficult issue to hendle.

Simon also once complained about too much information being made available.

I find that this site is far away from being over regulated, and that the policy of
advertising vehicles for sale should be paid for, whether as part of your membership
fee or as a supporting sponsor, or with a simple advertisement fee, is pretty fair. Again,
the cost for unlimited pics, unlimited lines, unlimited run time, and access to a targeted
audience, is very reasonable when compared to other venues.

Certainly is true that there is no way to please everyone. It appears that our current configuration pleases most folks, but not all folks.

As for funds, the forum costs money to operate and that is what the Support funds are used for. We definitely don't generate surplus funds, so yes, having a few users a year paying $35 to advertise a car for their own personal goal of selling the car can offset a fraction of the monthly operational costs.

Where I have a hard time with the issue is that we only have a few people who feel the system is just unacceptable (they've posted on the thread), a few people like yourself that are appear to be ambivalent, and then a majority of folks who say leave it alone. I side with the majority. If the majority gets together and wants a different model then it'll be changed.

In general terms, I still feel it is a matter of your geography as to what model you like. The folks that don't like it tend to be from the UK, the folks that tend to like it are from the US. I'm not saying either camp is right or wrong, it is just a curious observation.

Who said I am pleased??!!
NOT
I belong to the infidel Camp,,,,,I thought English and American are the same thing. Except one is pompous while the other, mother of all arrogance.

Ron Hussein is The Dictator/President for Life of this Forum. North Carolina should be invaded and he should be deposed. Anyone driving a YELLOW plasticy car should ultimately be beheaded.

The English (Girly men that they are), with the exception of the “Hooligan”, Kafar and two or three others should be banned from participation (or better yet, forced to pay double). If they have enough money to spend on Fake GT40s, then they have enough shilling for tea and this useless Forum

The Australians and NZs (same country) should be in charge of the Porn Section of the Forum (WHY DON”T WE HAVE ONE???), and we are NOT talking about sheep.

The Americans that are above 60 years old (90% on this Forum) should be deported back to their original country, England. Come to think of it, England is too good for them, send them to Zimbabwe where white people are treated "fairly".

And last but certainly not least, I should be the one running this Forum. “Coffee Natzi” being my model, I would know how to respond to descending members.

I have NEVER read a post from our very own Shining Iron Sheik that has failed to put a smile on my face....

I have to support Ron's position. Much like Ron, I have sold many things on E-bay and it is not free. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Even an unassembled collection of parts is worth an advertising fee to a target audience. I would allow any giveaway items should get a free listing, but most car ownership never is a money maker, so unless it is a give away...then I see nothing wrong with the fee. It is a "For Sale" subforum.

Nah, sorry Dave, I am going to support Fali's position! Ron may be right and Simon may be wrong but Fali is always a lot more entertaining. :)

The basic argument has long been forgotten here and it has turned into some sort of comedy thread!
The bottom line is that if I find a gt40 for sale in a local garage or newspaper, i am not allowed to post on the gt40s. Com website. It's been made VERY clear to me that I would have to try and find the owner, then pursuade them to contribute to the website, and have them advertise the car themselves. I'm just saddened that trying to help someone out ( both the seller and potential purchaser) is frowned upon.
I certainly won't be running around putting myself out any more. If you guys think that's selfish of me, I'm sorry, I don't make the rules!

Hi Simon,

actually, I never said that at all. Nobody is making you go out and do all of that work. In fact, that sounds like an immense amount of work.

I simply said that you can't advertise (post, whatever want to call it) other people's cars for sale on the forum. You can advertise your car, but not cars that you don't own. Same policy that has been on the forum for many years, same policy you've disagreed with for the same amount of time.

Are there new developments here that need be discussed, or is it the same grounds for disagreement that we're re-visiting?

As I said before:
