Finally we begin…

Hi All- I have had my GT-R for about a year now. I started with getting it off the ground and the first bit of low hanging fruit was the calipers. So off they came and out to powder coating. Got them back and reinstalled them but then life threw me a bit of a curve ball and I ended up sorting through some issues as well as changing jobs. I have finally settled into a rhythm and have decided to take a more methodical approach to this thing. I am a complete novice but willing to learn. Unfortunately I’m a hands on visual learner so reading build logs can only get me so far. The plan is bite off a piece….learn as much as I can about it….execute it and move on. So here I am thinking of starting with brakes but I have learned that I need to get the fuel tank buttoned up so I can run the lines in front of the tank across the front firewall and then under the tank. I have read a few build logs and made as much sense of the social instructions that I can but I’m looking for advice. How should I approach this thing? Should I pull the tank completely out of the car. It looks like I need to remove some body work at the nose to get it out. I believe there is a hole at the back of the tank for one of the pumps. I could pull the tank and install the pumps slide it back in place bolt the cover in front of it and move on or am I really underestimating this thing? Any advice and instruction is appreciated. Pictures are extremely helpful to me as well. Thanks in advance for you thought and time. I will add pictures as I go.

Ken - It would probably help if you started out with a level-set on the car. Have the doors been hung? Has the bodywork been done?
Pictures help us help you!

Hi Randy. The doors are hung but not aligned well at all. The body isn’t fit terribly but I thought it would be a bit better than it is considering I bought the body alignment/fitment option. So I am planning on saving the body work until the end. Here are a few pics of the current state of the car.

I have a couple friends coming Saturday with the intent of squaring the fuel tank work away. I think removing the nose of the car will allow me to slide it out. There appear to be a few bolts attaching the nose at the footwell and a few more attaching the spoiler across the bottom of the chassis. It won’t be easy as a couple of bolts are directly behind the coil overs. A few more pics to show that area are attached as well.

Any advice is appreciated. I am hoping to slide the tank out insulate it some and install the pumps and slide it back into place so I can put the nose back on. Storage is a constant issue for me at the moment. I don’t know exactly what is involved with the tank but since I have some help I am really hoping we can get it sorted.

Hi Ken,
I'm building a GT-R in southern California. I'm certainly no expert but feel to PM me with a phone number if you want to chat. I know Jon Gore started a thread named "How many GT-R kits are out there" Sort or a directory. You should let him know you are building one and he can add your name to the thread. There are others on there that have been very helpful to me along the way. Cheers!
