    Steering rack identification

Hi Geoff, I think you will find it is a Cortina Mk. 3/4/5. That is what is fitted to GTD's. I fitted one to a 'C' type KVA chassis but I think I had to shorten the ends by about 1". Brian.

    Bulkhead Window

Richard, On my GTD I have an interior frame the same as on you car. As the bulkhead panel is 1/8" fibreglass I added a second 1/8" panel which gave me enough depth to fit a custom made sealed double glazed unit. Brian.

    Stoneleigh this weekend

I see the Stoneleigh Kit Car Show is listed under events on the club website for this Sunday and Monday. Does anyone know if the club has booked the normal site? If so, as there is no AGM there this year do we expect the normal large turnout? Weather permitting I shall be there. Brian.

Electrial Car Services & Demon Tweeks & Farringdon

Hi Chuck, I have never had any dealings with Electrical Car Services. Their website seems to indicate that they are a secure company. Demon Tweeks is about the largest stockists of motorsport parts in England and the father and sons are well known on the Historic Racing scene so no problem...

    43 years ago - tragic

I heard of his death on the radio on my way home from the BOAC 1000 at Brands Hatch. He was in the programme to drive the Ford F3L. Shame he went to Hockenheim instead. A different era when Formula 1 was a sport. Brian.

Changing to a private Registration Plate????

Hi Darren, You can have an older registration put on your car but you are not allowed to change the registration to a later one that will give the effect of making the vehicle look younger than it is. Why not find a '60s or early '70s? If it does not read anything special they can be bought...

Frank Is it on a 'bend it you mend it, break it you buy it'. If so, can you afford to drive it???. Brian.

    Valve stem seals

Hi Mike, Jac Mac Thanks for you quick replies. I have gone through my old invoices (1997) and they are Comp Cams .530. I have measured the one guide I have removed and it measures 12.5mm which is .492 so I will fit a set of .500 and see if that does the job. Thanks for your advice. Brian.

    Valve stem seals

I have just removed one of my heads (289 HiPo) to investigate why my engine smokes and have found the problem. Only one of the valve stem seals on this head is in the correct position, the rest have come off the top of the valve guide tube and are floating up and down with the valve. These are...

Docking Radiators Have you had a Failure?

This is the only picture I could find that shows how my radiator is mounted as it now has ducting around it. The radiator has posts welded to the top and bottom which fit into the Ford Fiesta radiator mounting grommets. The picture shows the original copper radiator but I now have a Docking...

Docking Radiators Have you had a Failure?

Ian, As you have started this post will you be informing Dockings to give them a chance to reply? I have had a Docking for about 3 years with no serious problems. Brian.

    GT40 floor removal help

If the powder coating company feel the heat will melt the sealant, how about drilling out the rivets and then have them put it in their oven and see what happens. Brian.

    Air con compresoor question

Hi Jason I would advise against running the compressor and alternator from the same belt. If you have the room add a double pulley to the crankshaft and run them seperately. Have a read of SteveB's post 170 paragraph 3. He found that you could not get the belt tight enough to stop it...

    Brett's RS GTD

Brett, The CV joints don't slide on the shaft, the splines are for drive only. As Andy says they should be locked in position with a dished washer and then a second circlip. The length of the shaft is adjusted by the movement in the CV joints themselves. Brian

    Chevron B16 Replica

Dave, You might want to try here for rims. They are part of Europa Spares a reputable firm based here in England. If you look in 'prices' they list various sizes but I don't know if they will fit your centres. Might be worth contacting them. Brian. Welcome to splitrim.com, retailers of...

    ZF scam - Watch out

I have been looking at a Vincent motorcycle engine on Craigslist. I replied to the advert and he came back saying the engine could be viewed in Inverness Highland and was signed Gab. I was tempted to buy it sight unseen but now I have my doubts if it exists. Is this the same person? Brian.

    ZF oil pump question

Mike/Julian. If you don't need the 90 degree drive then the speedo cable fits direct to the gearbox, which is what I have done on my car. What you are looking at is a minature oil pump driven off the speedo drive. Oil lines are attached to either side but the ports don't show in the picture. The...
