    The season starts soon.

Oh, well, don't mind me then .... obviously somebody who sticks a V8 into a 917 doesn't know much about porsche heritage or its lineup :lipsrsealed:

    917/10 "replica" :-)

Alex, believe me, I,d sooner be in an original space frame set up than this one.

    Fender mounted mirrors

I find the need for rear mirrors is to know if a cop has snuck up behind you. Not a prob on the track but could be classified as resisting arrest if you cant hear or see cop! Alex, the 917 is looking sweet. When will you have it on the road? will you beat the Arctic freeze? Any more pics?

    Digi Dash

Not unless the devices are all calibrated to use the same sensor. And keep in mind you'll need to use a pullup resistor on the tach to get digidash to read it (if using a GMPP wiring harness) The digidash is able to display all that on one screen fyi - speed, RPM, gear, water temp, oil temp...

    RCR 917 engine

Alex is building a RCR 917 with an LS engine, isn't he? Details on the RCR link in advertisers.

The Spa "Six Hour" race meeting

Many thanks to Alex for resizing the above pictures and posting them here for me. I love Spa, and I had really hoped and prayed that it would be a relatively kind weather meeting. WRONG !! We all go out for the early morning first qualifying session on a very wet, greasy and cold (4...

    4" Gulf Flares

Alex, if you are talking rear wheels only then they started with 12", then 15"and 17". For CanAm they were going to as much as 22".

    917 plastic windshield

Alex, An original screen and bodywork was loaned by me to Fran to make his RCR 917 front moulds so you are guaranteed the right shape. I,ve been racing my 917 since 2005 and have never used the wipers ,as a coat of rainex on the screen just lets the water run off completely, as you...

Cool car in need of Fran's chassis

Aeromaster I ran across a picture and then did a little searching. What a cool looking car....make a great "team" car to the LMP here.....but the 70's chassis is sure to let the aero down. Just thought it was cool to view, not as an alternative but Alex could use something to stick that BBC...

    Porsche 917 - am I crazy?

Michel, well said. Fran failed to mention any of that in his post. What Alex, and possibly other builders are doing also, is making a fundamentally dangerous car even more vunerable, and all I am saying is beware. Most builders of these 917 derivatives see a wonderful...

    What style exhaust?

An understated 917.....hhmm....keep taking the meds Alex... Not a snowballs chance in hell of making 180s fit in the 917 with a Chevy engine...

    917 Scratch Build

Graham, Alex has an RCR 917 in the works. Sorry for my poor description, flexy is a better anology. I know a couple of real 917 pilots and we always speak of all things 917. Almost had a deal on two original engines 15 years ago, but missed it. They were for a Porsche boat project that never...

    Porsche 917 - am I crazy?

Don't worry, I'm well aware and not going into this blind with my head stuck in the sand. All about compromises ..... plus I think my testicular fortitude will fail me whenever I try to leave my driveway, LOL 300 or 500 is no good .... I've got almost 700 =)

SLC center lock conversion kit ?

Many guys who readily track their 997 Gt3's have "demoted" their cars to 5 studs. I "demoted" my GT2 to lug nuts from lug studs. Just cause its more trick, doesn't mean better or more handy. (GT3 CL are not the same CL as race cars). Makes me laugh inside when I see the guys using brake...

Holy crap, Alex!!!!!!! Must be nice to fit in the 917. What are you? 5'4"???? 5'5"?????

    Porsche 917 - am I crazy?

Fran, quite right ........................ but none of what you have written has anything to do with the picture that Alex has posted. His engine is not a air cooled Porsche and tortional rigidity does not come into it. As the gearbox tail is beyond the structural...

    917 Scratch Build

Jack, sacrilegious to put in a boat, but wow, if only you could have pulled that deal off. I do not suppose you and Alex have too much rain out there in Florida to worry about door sealing up much, but over here we do get a bit of the wet stuff. I don,t bother much as my 917 is race only...

How do you install the door shocks????

Template didn't work for me. I ended up basically using the struts as a prop rod - when the door is closed they're fully extended, then you have to manually open the door and about 3/4 of the way up the arc they compress and re-extend and hold it open. I gave up trying to make them work in...
