    IAC location on manifold

Paul, we did a lot of the Eight Stack systems a while back and also TWM, all with an IAC fitted. Absolutely no point having a sophisticated EFI system without one, chalk and cheese for best running. The Eight Stack manifold should have a vacuum plenum built underneath We fitted a remote IAC...

    Interesting engine - Commer Knocker...

I remember those from the '50's and '60's very powerfull, very quiet, sort of a whistle but terrible fuel consumption. Even at five bob a gallon, diesel was actually cheaper than petrol then, meant that they soon filtered down to the lower end of the transport mob, where poor or no maintenance...

    Disszy for Weber intakes

JAC MAC, the MSD 8579 and the "Ready To Run " both use the same cap # 8431, same size for both. You can run a 6AL with any distributor, magnetic, points, whatever, just differant wiring procedure. Tom, what you have is a Pro Comp, read Chinese, knock off of a Pierce manifold. Garry Polled, "The...

    Oil pan gasket reco ?

Before you decide you need to check the oil pan, Aviaid pans are not what they used to be, the last one we used was so badly distorted we had to clamp it to the block just to get some of the bolts in. Every one lately has been warped, maybe now made in Mexico or some such. If it is bent better...

    160° Thermostats

Tom, the warehouse we deal with in the US has 12 in stock. I am putting in an order right now we will have it next week. Cost here will be 13.00 GBP Let me know. Mike

    Damper SFI rating

SFI rating on a damper is essentially, no cast iron. Steel on steel, alloy on steel or something similar so no explosions. Mainly for drag racing in the US where most sanctioning bodies won't allow cast dampers or flywheels if your car is capable of runing above a certain ET. Seems they don't...

    Gtd? Flywheel query

The Essex V6 is external, whether you "respect" the information or not that is a fact. That big lump of cast iron on one side sort of gives the game away. You do not need to touch the damper that will be OK. We do balancing and we do American V8s, if you do need help let me know. Mike

    Gtd? Flywheel query

The D347SR crate motor is internally balanced, it does not need external balance weights. The V6 Capri flywheel DOES have an external balance weight, you need to sort this before it all ends in tears. Mike

    Gtd? Flywheel query

Most Ford V8 engines and ALL small block engines in stock or near stock specification rely on a degree of external balance, ie. a weight on the flywheel and an opposing weight on the damper. On it's own the crank etc is not in balance hence the problem with this flywheel that is now perfectly...

    Gtd? Flywheel query

It's a V6 Essex, " modified " to fit the V8 crank. Unfortunately not the same balance, we used to deal with the firm that modified them for GTD and their balancing tecnique involved putting a washer under the edge and then machining the flywheel flat, hey presto, you had nore external balance...

    inlet manifold leaking water

If these are the Fel Pro gaskets with the blue silicon bead they can be a pain in the bum. The bead can actually cut into the gasket and either split it or allow it to move. Depending on the heads /manifold you have and the gasket number there is a potential mis match of the water passages...

    Initial (start) timing

Bill, The AFR 205 come in either 58 cc or 72 cc chambers so you have either 12.1 or 10.4.1 comp with your combo. 150 PSI at cranking is not that brilliant for the 10.4 and pathetic at 12 so nothing there to hinder starting. We have built plenty of motors with Eight stack injection, TWM etc and...

Engine number, 289 or 302 that is the question?

C3 is a 260 or a very early 289. Either way it will be a 5 bolt block for the early , small bellhousing. Havn't the faintest idea what you have planned for a trans but you will find it very, very difficult to match anything to a 5 bolt block. If you need just a block let me know, I have several...

Best roller rockers and mounts ?

Chris, don't know what combination you have but we have come accross all sorts of balance / vibration problems particularly with the cheaper end cranks and definately with "kits" that come ready balanced.........not ! We have junked loads of cranks, even from some very well known engine...

Best roller rockers and mounts ?

A....what are you doing at a race meeting with a standard pick up like that ? B.......do as everybody says, brazing, gussets etc, even a strap to a main stud. C...... you have got a balance / vibration problem, fix that first or it all ends in tears. Mike

    lift vs valve spring life?

That isn't much of a cam for drag racing, it's actualy less than GM put in their top end crate engines. Also you can't go putting valve springs on hydraulic roller lifters that " are much stronger than what was needed" it doesn't work like that. Maybe your friend should be talking to someone...

    lift vs valve spring life?

The LS engines run a Bee Hive spring so traditional thinking on spring pressures doesn't really apply. The retainers etc, because of their small size, are incredibly light compared to a traditional set up, plus the LS uses an 8mm valve stem further reducing weight. Stock GM performance springs...

    Fel-Pro Gasket Problem

Years ago Fel Pro actually told you that the stock type " Print o Seal" gaskets were for race use only ie for motors that got torn down regularly and the gaskets replaced, NOT for street use. If you look in the back of their catalogue now they say they are for "true race use " whatever that...
