SFI rating on a damper is essentially, no cast iron. Steel on steel, alloy on steel or something similar so no explosions. Mainly for drag racing in the US where most sanctioning bodies won't allow cast dampers or flywheels if your car is capable of runing above a certain ET. Seems they don't...

The Essex V6 is external, whether you "respect" the information or not that is a fact. That big lump of cast iron on one side sort of gives the game away. You do not need to touch the damper that will be OK. We do balancing and we do American V8s, if you do need help let me know. Mike

The D347SR crate motor is internally balanced, it does not need external balance weights. The V6 Capri flywheel DOES have an external balance weight, you need to sort this before it all ends in tears. Mike

Most Ford V8 engines and ALL small block engines in stock or near stock specification rely on a degree of external balance, ie. a weight on the flywheel and an opposing weight on the damper. On it's own the crank etc is not in balance hence the problem with this flywheel that is now perfectly...

If these are the Fel Pro gaskets with the blue silicon bead they can be a pain in the bum. The bead can actually cut into the gasket and either split it or allow it to move. Depending on the heads /manifold you have and the gasket number there is a potential mis match of the water passages...

Bill, The AFR 205 come in either 58 cc or 72 cc chambers so you have either 12.1 or 10.4.1 comp with your combo. 150 PSI at cranking is not that brilliant for the 10.4 and pathetic at 12 so nothing there to hinder starting. We have built plenty of motors with Eight stack injection, TWM etc and...

Chris, don't know what combination you have but we have come accross all sorts of balance / vibration problems particularly with the cheaper end cranks and definately with "kits" that come ready balanced.........not ! We have junked loads of cranks, even from some very well known engine...

A....what are you doing at a race meeting with a standard pick up like that ? B.......do as everybody says, brazing, gussets etc, even a strap to a main stud. C...... you have got a balance / vibration problem, fix that first or it all ends in tears. Mike

That isn't much of a cam for drag racing, it's actualy less than GM put in their top end crate engines. Also you can't go putting valve springs on hydraulic roller lifters that " are much stronger than what was needed" it doesn't work like that. Maybe your friend should be talking to someone...

The LS engines run a Bee Hive spring so traditional thinking on spring pressures doesn't really apply. The retainers etc, because of their small size, are incredibly light compared to a traditional set up, plus the LS uses an 8mm valve stem further reducing weight. Stock GM performance springs...
