2003 U.K. tv program...dream cars

Hi Paul ...... thank you for posting the video. I had virtually forgotten about that program. I loved the comment from the chap who said it cost him around £15,000 to build the car! I wonder if it's worth pitching a TV company to build another one (possibly an AK or a Tornado) while there is still time as 2030 rushes towards us.
As you may have read, I spent nearly two months in Utah and Arizona in the spring of 2025 and all the American car guys I met up with just couldn't get their heads round the fact that in the UK in less than 4 years we won't be able to register a new car with an internal combustion engine. If I could roll the clock back I would move to the US tomorrow (in particular to Arizona).

Low volume manufactures and kit cars will be exempt in 2030

Kit cars, along with special purpose vehicles and very low-volume manufacturers, are expected to receive a full exemption from the UK's 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel car sales. The Department for Transport (DfT) has indicated that applying strict zero-emission requirements to the kit car industry would not be "proportionate" due to their low production volumes and minimal environmental impact.

Thanks

Hi Andy, I hope you are well and that business is good. As I believe you are aware, I (and others) are actively following all government legislation that effects us (and you). Whilst there has been some 'loose' words from the DfT, currently no one has received any written official communication. There are many rumours circulating as to what constitutes low volume production ..... figures from 1,000 down to as low as 300 are being used by people on forums and the car media. However none of this is based on fact.
Given that we are moving rapidly towards 2030 and as we know people take typically 1-3 years to complete a kit and get it through IVA, then the timescales are approaching the point where it will soon have an effect on businesses like yours and others.
The government need to get their act together. As we all know the so called 'kit car industry' along with many suppliers employ lots of people and represent a significant chunk of financial turnover. Unfortunately, the current government is pursuing a path to remove petrol (and diesel) vehicles off the road.
If I become aware of any official statements I will of course let you know (although in theory you should hear before me).
Hope to see you at an event during the year.
Best regards
Steve.

I think the pressure already applied by both Aston Martin and McLaren on the Government will get the job done as both want to continue manufacturing petrol cars in the future for obvious reasons

Last I heard was its to be limited to 500 cars per year

Thanks

Andy
