Due to some of the problems we've had with users editing posts to "clean up" or in many cases entirely change posts to reflect a different content I've limited the editing time to 15 minutes. That is, once you post you've got 15 minutes to reconsider and then it is fixed forever.
This used to not be a problem at all, but I remember one discussion a couple months ago about something where the user that started it deleted ALL of their posts on the thread. This very poor behavior basically made the thread useless. And, some recent activity has occured with posts being changed although not nearly as bad.
At any rate, most boards don't allow anything to be changed at all and we'll move in that direction. You've got 15 minutes now as a grace period in which you can retract statements. After that you're famous.
