Best GT ?

I am trying to get a concensus of which GT the group prefers. I have been looking at a Superformance and I like the build quality and the availability of parts. It would be strictly street use as I am selling my Lola T160 Can Am race car and not having any desire to get this on track.

Thoughts?

I cannot help you with which gt is the best , however i have a CAV and a SPF and can comment on these two. both have excellent build quaility, with the edge going to the SPF as far as paint and finish of the underside of the shells. The CAV is a more simple design as far as the MONO goes and I do prefer the SPF as far as suspension goes. The CAV is quieter and a little easier to make water tight, but both are fine after some tinkering. There is no doubt that the SPF has the panache of being as original, not much else can compare to that. the CAV will generally be less expensive by 12-20 K. i drive both about the same number of miles a week andlove which ever one I am in at the time it seems.

Not sure if it makes any difference to you, but the CAV has a stainless steel monocoque chassis which is a beautiful and tough piece of work. After having restored a bunch of classic cars myself, the one thing I avoid like the plague is rust/corrosion as I've found it to be the most time consuming to repair properly, and the most concerning from a longevity standpoint. I don't baby my CAV so it gets driven in rain and at night and taken to Home Depot to pick up plumbing supplies. In the Northwest here where it rains a lot and it's quite humid with a steady sea breeze, corrosion resistence is important - the stainless chassis is a good fit.

I've also found the interior space in the CAV to be bigger than many other 40s which is appreciated as I'm six three and wear a 46-48 suit jacket. I seem to fit OK.

Superformance and RCR also both make a super nice product, just as good as the CAV (and maybe better in some respects). RCR seems to have outstanding post-sale support.

Bud, after you are in the car it seems both have about the same room. The SPF is off set so the drivers side has more width, the CAV has adjustable seats so it is easier to get in and out of. My CAV also has the lowered seat pans so head room is a bit better. the spf has a removable wheel, the cav has a smaller wheel

Dean, I have seen pictures of your car. VERY NICE!

I am waiting for the money fairy to visit me and bless me with enough cash to add a RCR like yours to my barn.

:D :D :D

The best GT40 is the one you own.

Seriously this is a question that is often asked and I am yet to see a definitive answer. All the major manufacturers from the feedback I have seen here make a high quality product. Contact them all and tell them your requirements, visit as many of their factories as you can. And then make your own mind up.

According to J. Clarkson, he compares the Bentley Continental GT, Benz SL55 AMG and the Aston Martin DB7 to be the best GT car. But for me, it should be the M3. For the third-generation M3, that means more engine and more gears.
M3 is perfectly content in the slow lane, hauling groceries or trundling through traffic.

M3??? thread drift??? Clarksons opinions on cars erm............

Pete has the best advice, check 'em out (thoroughly) and take the one you like best. Did this and the RCR did it for me.

Good hunting

John

Look at it another way - self preservation ! Rather than think which is the best, ask yourself which car you would NOT want to be in in the event of a crash. I could name several that I definately would not want to be in a frontal or side impact situation, whilst others would have some reaonable protection. I will not get into discussion on which, but my mind goes back to my friend Dave Briggs who is in hospital with some quite bad injuries, we dont know the facts of his crash, but it preys on the mind that this was in a mono chassised car of particular make, how did it perform when given its greatest test? Would I want the protection of a space frame, or the absorbtion of a mono, even though the mono would probably be destroyed when the spaceframe would be repairable? As I said , look at it another way !

I just wonder why mister Clarkson always does not consider that strange red ones produced since 1947 in a place near Modena, a small "villigeeez" named Maranello....soo strange...really wonder, just forget at this moment the name..think starts with a big F..

but JA, SURELY an Aston will be better (jeremy is always right..joho)than any Maranello's coffin..ja ja... LOL:laugh: ahahahahahahahahaha.... mavaffanculo va..

Cant help thinking our fiend Mr Petty Doh is an automotive spammer out for some free air time- check his autopartswarehouse site out.

Having visited the RCR factory, looked closely at all of the RCR mono's, I was positively awed by the quality and design of the chassis. I ordered an SL-C within a couple of days. I am a Yacht Designer by profession and any qualms about structural integrity disappeared after seeing the construction, materials and design engineering that went into the RCR mono's. Thanks Fran!

Lolola, check out the new BDR GT it is a joint venture with Backdraft & CAV which is now run by Auto Futura. They took over after car # 100.The CAV was a great car but Auto Futura took it to the next level with many improvments .The BDR GT comes standard with wide hips ,17" wheels , stripes,A/C and the Audi trans. Both Superformance & Auto Futura are factory built cars and the fit & finish are perfect .The BDR GT is finished in full leather, dash ,doors ,headliner and seats which are fully adjustable. It is also water tight & the interior is done with sound proofing and you don't need to take the wheel off to get in. I did my car in gun metal gray with ghost stripes.

thanks , my Cobra is Tungsten Silver ( no stripes ) which is an Aston Martin color . The Gun Metal Gray is darker but it also has a nice metalic to it & the GT has to have stripes so it is a ghost silver color . The new interiors are finished very nice & have more room than would think.
