Betty\'s Boobs

I have finished Betty's boob job. As you can see she no longer has the two Gurney bubbles. I like the car a lot better with the classic roof line. I have a few more hours of body work left and I will have the painter over for inspection. I suspect I will have more work to do after that but all in all shes getting pretty close to paint.

I started a couple days after Christmas, 2003, and have worked about 15-20 hours a week on aveage. Learned a lot about glass work. LOTS of dust!!!

One other thing I couldn't post on the builders page because the Post button was turned off, strange. Works ok here.

Howard,
You're probably the first person in the world to perform a mastectomy to a GT40.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Howard,

The whole breast reduction thing is part of a feminist plot!

Sorry to see that you fell for their propaganda! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

BIGGER is better! (*)(*)

Betty looks a LOT better! Keep at it! The end is in sight!

Re: Betty\'s Boobs

PLEASE clean out your garage and dust of your clothes. Last time you got in my car, I had to vacuum the car for two days to get the fiberglass out of my car /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

You're probably suffering from the same problem I am. I haven't yet donated to the website. So until then, cheapskates are banned from posting to certain forums (but you can still read them).

Nice work Howard - it looks like you've got really good alignment & panel gaps, and also like you will not even need eyebrows to hold the door tops down.

The only question left is "can you still fit in the car ?"

If not, I can only see 3 solutions :

- lower seat cushions
- shave an inch off the top of your head !
- liposuction or worse at the other end !

Don't you just love that f/glass dust - death by a thousand pin-pricks every night !

Kind Regards,

Peter D.

Re: Betty\'s Boobs

If you all recall I kinda asked for a informal poll on Betty's two bumps last year. Just about everyone didn't like two on the car including myself so I took them off. Each door took me about a week. I layed about 3/16" of glass mat into the holes and filled in the rest with a thin coat of Vett panel adhesive to reshape the top. This added about a 1/2" of headroom. The driver's side door bump will soon appear on another 40. So Betty is a boobie donor.

Peter, I used your method of laying 1/2" strips onto the edges to add edge lenght and then overlaying more glassmat to add thickness. You are right. This method really builds up the edge AND has a lot of strenght. I wonder how much the other builders, RF,MDA,CAV,etc., bodys need this much work to make them fit nice.

I added material to at least 90% of the edges on the whole car! Some as much as 3/8". The area at the trailing edge of the doors was the worst. It was necessary to add almost 1/2" of thickness and 3/8" of lenght there. Also the close line at the front of the doors was quite a bit of work also.

I am 5'3" with my shoes on so my problem was to reach the peddles. I moved the peddle box rearward as far as it would go and welded hoops onto the peddles themselfs that added another 1". My seats are not adjustable. I bolted them to 1/4" X 1" steel strips that are inturn bolted to the floor. This places the seats as close to the floor as they can be.

I am still shooting for a return from paint, I could never paint a car myself, by the middle of July. Then I will need to reassemble all the stuff that comes off for painting. I will be gone for the first two weeks in August but look for a comming out party in N. Calif. after that. More on this, Date, time, address, directions, later but if you got em' drive em' over for a afternoon of burgers, beer and 40's.
