BMW m70 info

hi john, Yes it was a good find, hows your m70 coming along, i have been trying to find as much info as i can to make a desision between my current choice of the 1uz or maybe going down the path of a m70, as there is nothing like the sound of a nice v12, can you suggest any sites i should look at, my project and my life has been on hold for a couple of years after my wife of thirty years suddenly decided she no longer wanted to be married to anyone, she just wanted to be single again, the lawyers are still fighting but i still have my project, its taken 18 months to get enough motivation to return to the project, but i am now even more determined to finish it, and once the family house sells i will have the funds to do that or maybe buy a real Countach.

Best regards
Graeme

Graeme, very sorry to hear about the personal issues. My other half is never happy with the money and time I spend with the cars & engines, but I keep telling her they're a lot cheaper than keeping a 25 year old mistress :), plus she knows where I am all the time, and doesn't have to worry about me leaving her for a car or an engine......

My M70 is close enough to being finished that I can taste it. With any luck at all, it should be on the engine dyno in another month or two at the most.

I would advise anyone embarking on an M70 project to look closely at other alternatives. When this engine is finished, I'll have enough tied up in it that I could have purchased an "F" V12, or at minimum an Audi or BMW V10, which are every bit as exclusive as this thing and will make more power for a lot less money. I think either of those V10's would be a great platform for a self-built Lambo.

However, if you wind up with enough funds, I'd go for the real thing if I were you, then put any extra toward sprucing it up and/or rebuilding it.

Of course you could always join me in my latest fit of madness - I'm looking into building a fiberglass Mangusta, and powering it with this V12.

John, Thanks for your kind thoughts, It is a extremely difficult time, especially post resession, funds are limited, i would not wish divorse on anyone, as far as spending money on the project it was very very little perhaps $1000 per year but it has taken a lot of personal time, as some hobbies do.

Do be carefull
I did check regularly with the wife to make sure she was happy with me spending time on the project, and she said no thats fine, you gotta have some sort of hobby, and she said the same thing as yours well at least i know where you are, then her womens mid life changes kicked in and she became a different person, and then out of the blue with no real warning whammo, and guess what she then had someone go through my workshop and value all my junk tools etc ,and i'm only talking 20k worth total retail, spread over 30 years, then she went to the lawyer, then she told me. so this is a warning to all other car guys out there also, just because she says its ok to spend money on your hobby don,t take it as being so.
I,m glad you m70 is finally getting there, if i got one it would be fitted stock standard, i do have a couple of VF11's turbos from a Subaru and figured that running .5-.75 bar it should not cost a fortune to do that.

Damien what would you suggest for say a max of 350 400hp i currently only have a choice of the 016 or a un1 so can't get too carried away hp wise, do you think the VF11's would be ok as a now poor mans option lol

Best regards
Graeme
