Carbon Canisters

Started working on the fuel system and was wondering what folks are doing stateside with the line for the carbon canisters?

Mark, can you post a pic. of your carbon canisters and mounting location?

Dave, sorry, my fuel system is not installed yet, so no pics, but I can describe the location to you. One carbon canister for each tank, each mounted at the base of the front bulkhead immediately outboard of the forward drag link mounting point.

Not sure if it helps, but here in Oz we have to have one to meet the regs for rego. Mine is from a Holden Monaro (the new Pontiac GTO in the US) & is mounted under the rear RHS clip strut. It is the black box just behind the RHS driveshaft in the following pic & I just have the 2 lines from the tank filler necks t-connected to a common line going into the cannister. Purging the cannister is controlled by one of the ECU's aux outputs & initially set to purge if rpm's exceed 6000. This is ensure that the damn thing doesn't dump right in the middle of the dreaded RTA emissions test ! Later on, we'll pick some more sensible parameter / setting.

Kind Regards,

Peter D.

Actually, I was wondering how to run the tank vent line if one's not going to use the carbon canister. Is anybody using an anti siphon valve in case the vehicle inverts? If so type and make?

Rolf,
You have the Rollover gas caps and anti syphon gates. They come with the kit. There is also a vent line that hooks up near the swan necks. I did not use the carbon canisters. I simply plugged those off at the tank. I park my GT in the garage that is attached to my home. I also have a Cobra parked ther too and it has no charcoal cannisters. I have not once smelled gasoline from these cars. If you store your lawnmower or weed whacker and leaf blower in the garage then that's what you will smell. They have more evaporative hydrocarbons than an RF GT ever will. The cannisters aren't a bad thing but I personnally don't like the looks.

OK, Talked with the roaring forties factory and they told me I would have to run vent lines to the tanks, that the vent to the swan necks would be insufficient. My question now is that once I have the lines in place should I hook them up to some sort of container (a carbon canister) or just leave them vented to open air? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
