Club meets, UK

OK, I've not joined any clubs (yet) but where would be a meet near me (am in Essex, UK)
I've been along to the Pig and Whistle at Chignal Smealy but there never seems to be anybody there, where do the other Essex/Kent guys go?
Thanks

Welcome Simon

I think you just beet me to the Blue GTD - by a matter of a couple of hours - hope you enjoy the car.

We have a good meeting on the 2nd Wednesday each month across in Cobhan - Other side of London - Around the M25 then up the A3 towards London for a mile then into Cobham.

Probably 40 / 50 miles each way but a great bunch of guys and extremely helpful for us newbies. Also have a few "title" holders come to the meeting namely Treasurer and Editor - also had a visit this month from 2 GTD club members they were organising the Le Mans historical trip this year

Could be a start for you. See under the Enthusast Club title on this forum for the full details of the meeting

Forgive me, Ian, if I just clarify a point you made above as one of the two GTD members you refer to. The GT40 Enthusiast Club are orgainising the Le Mans Classic trip and not the GTD club. Can't have us stealing their glory for what seems to be a superb trip for all those that will be going. However tempting..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It was a good evening and I enjoyed meeting a lot of new faces. Not often I walk into a pub and it goes quiet! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It must be the dark trench coats that do it !!...But where else could we find out the secret of how some 40's can make it all the way to Le Mans without incident, when we struggle to make it all the way up some old hill!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif Which way was it again at Martini Malc? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi Simon,

Not wanting to compete with Cobham /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif (I was there last month) and I know we have already conversed by e-mail but for everyone else's information, there is a North London/Hertfordshire meeting in Welwyn Hertfordshire. This I calculate to be about 10 miles nearer than Cobham.

It has a steadily increasing attendance (11 last month) so much so that we are now seeking a new venue as certainly last month we outgrew the Wagonners Pub. Also a more car friendly, and hunger friendly, place would be an improvement. I need to get off my backside (and out of the garage) and trawl around the locality for a decent spot. Again if anyone knows of a suitable place close to the M25/M1 junction that would be great.

David
