Competition events

Lydden Sprint tomorrow ( 6 June ) this was a nominated club competition event - any club member going ? then Goodwood Sprint 27th June, whos doing that one ?

Hi Frank

We (my son Tim and I) hope to be at Goodwood on the 27th June with our Radical SR3 (and a quiet silencer!). Not a '40 I'm afraid, but The RF GT40 project is taking a very long time just to get it driveable on the road let alone turning it into a viable track car. It is almost there with the former but requires a lot of development in the suspension department for the latter. We are also going to Goodwood for the B & H sprint on the 1st August, again with the Radical.

Maybe see you there.

Chris

Chris, then you will be in the same class as Ian, my son, so look forward to some good competition. Last year Ians two lap standing start time was 164.26 FTD was 160.30.

A sign of the times / crunch I suspect Frank!

Speaking to others, I think many fellow competitors are 'watching the pennies' so to speak as motorsport is a pleasureable hobby/luxury which when times are hard, is an easy route to some savings in outgoings.

That said I'm as busy as hell at the moment preparing other people's cars, so a few days R&R at Spa this coming weekend through Wed with a couple of 40s and a GT3 Porsche will be a welcome break, esp as I'm probably taking my bike too. You never know, I might even take a ride over to 'The Ring' as it's only about 70k away from Spa.

Then when I return its off to the Historic SuperPrix at Brands Hatch for 4/5 July weekend meet with the TVR Griff.

Then, straight off to Scotland/Orkney/Shetlands on my GSX1400 for a week with Helen. (which had to be slotted between other events).

I will be at the 2 day meet at Wiscombe Hill climb in July, hopefully to see my 2002 record remain in place, or if bettered, let it be me...

The TVR is taking a lot of time out of this season, clashing with 6/7 of the normal GTD events but as its paid work I would be mad to turn it away, plus it's fun and from what I've experienced thus far, the 'Historic crowd' are a really friendly, knowledgeable bunch of petrolheads, with some of the most beautiful machinery I've seen - and I'm lovin' it!!

Paul,

If you take a ride round the nordschleife, you'll probably beat my time of 18.5 mins! (in the pi55ing rain, on a BMW K1200LT with a week and a halfs worth of camping gear)
Have fun.

I got the video of someone being overtaken by a VW Beetle......but rest assured Simon, Paul was well under the 18 minute mark when we went in 1994. :-)

Unfortunately not - see other thread under problems with Jay Cushman to see the latest on the Gurney Weslake saga. The good news is that most of the reworking has been done now by Knight Racing - they are about to dry sump it.

Cheers, Martin
