Electric Air conditioning

Has anyone had a good look under the hood of the Toyota Prius? I just read that this car is the only vehicle manufactured with an electric air conditioning unit. I wonder if the A/C could be stripped from one in a boneyard and fitted to a '40.....Less junk on the front end of the engine to deal with. Yes, it would probably draw 20 amps, but nothing that a 140 Amp Powermaster could not handle.

I had also heard that the Smart car (part of Mercedes) also did this.

Or what about a refrgerator compressor system driven by a 12v motor?

I'd also go this way but at present the budget has been blown so I'll get too hot - perhaps lose some weight in my sauna

I would also presume any elecric vehicle (tend to be be experimental still) would also have this system

Ah yes, the budget pain. That's why I am gearing up to sell all redundant parts and mistakes.............bargain hunters stay tuned.

You should probably figure that an electric system will be about 500 watts - 40A.

A refrigerator compressor is much too small. A fridge is a small, well-sealed system compared with a car.
