European Car Events

Hello All,

I’m just back in Australia from holidays and trying to get used to reality again. We spent four weeks in Europe and had a great time. My wife’s nursing graduation group gets together every few years for a re-union and the last time it was agreed that the next get together would be in Tuscany (At the time, there MAY have been alcohol involved in that decision). Amazingly enough, we had eighteen people attend. Anne and I decided to go for a bit of a wander, while we were in the area, and I did manage to sneak off to a few car related events. These were:

Villa D’Este Concours
Highly Recommended. Get there, if you can, and be early. Two of the photos show the huge increase in crowds, and I was waiting for the gates to open. I don’t know how people that arrived later would even be able to take any photos of the exhibits. Cars and bikes I’d only seen in magazines. The best of the best and in a beautiful location.

Monaco Grand Prix
Recommended once. Like most races, you get a better view on television, but everyone should try to do it once to know what it’s like. Anarchy. Decent views of one piece of track, but no general entry to be able to walk around and see other parts of the track, which I like to do. I hired the Kangaroo TV and used it to keep tabs on placings, etc via the stats channel. I was looking forward to an exciting finish, when the crash which caused the re-start happened right in front of me.

Porsche Museum, Stuttgart
Highly Recommended. New museum building, good parking below and a great display of vehicles. The car park had better Porsches than some museums I’ve been into. Hire the audio guide.

Now back to getting my car finished.

Cheers,

Lance

Fantastic trip and pics, Lance. Also good planning, as with a bunch of wives together, you can then sneak off to things you are interested in (eg.classic cars) while the wives talk about your faults, shop, etc..

Lance, is it your car I sat in one night (accompanied by Dave), which was getting the footwells extended for more legroom to the pedals? If so, how did this turn out?
