Exhaust Systems

As courtesy to Gary, reposting his question:

Hello,

Thanks to everyone that has posted pictures on this thread.

I especially like the pictures of the rearends showing the angle of the exhaust as it exits the rear body clip opening. It is interesting to see the different angles of the exhaust pipe. Some are at a pretty good angle pointing downward, and some are not.

Is this due to the swing of the rear body as it is raised to the "up" position? Or just how the exhaust was routed around something upstream? Or did someone figure out a HP advantage here?

Might be due to a few things, height of the motor/trans, length/type of muffler etc, body opening clearance, and it just looks good ;)

Hi Gary,

Maybe your transplanted questions here will become a thread for exhaust systems.

After lowering my engine, the stock CAV muffler exhaust tips were too high in the body opening. A quick slice and weld in 2006 lowered the angle of the tips and re-centered them. This is an easy cosmetic improvement that just makes the rear of the car look more balanced.

As for my vote, I think RCR makes a very sexy system. I don’t think this picture of RCR crossover headers has ever been posted but I think they are pretty close to art. You can see how the muffler angles down to run parallel along slope of the ZF transmission case. Alas they don’t fit my car but they probably will fit many. Very functional eye candy.

Rob,

Thanks for starting this thread. I think it would be a good way to have the members show off the exhaust system on their 40, especially along with a story about any changes or challenges and/or modifications made to make it right.

It would also be kind of fun to see a picture posted showing the rear of the car, to compare the different angles.

Thanks,

I Gary,
Yep... sounds good. Also, methods used to secure down the tail pipes (ie springs....etc).

I was hoping you weren't going to be pissed at me at be honest.....:D

Rob,

After I posted the suggestion about the exhaust system differences on the other thread, I got to thinking....... that a few people would respond and whack me about starting my own thread on the subject in the correct area of the forum, and not hyjacking someone elses thread.

I am still new here, and learning each time I visit the forum. The fact that you took the time to repost my idea in the correct area of the forum, supports the overall reflection of the postitive people here, and it also reflects what type of person you are. Learning from a positive example means alot more to me than being whacked.

Thank you for your support.
