Ford blue color for block

ford corporate blue. This is the color used on all US production engines from 1966-19??. Eventually they went to black.

Looks like I will go for Blue unless someone know/can tell me what was block color of eighter:
1.GTP1075(1968 le Mans winner)
2.Normal Mustang Mexican block SB302 from 1971 (from the one I have it should be blue).

Be carefull....
Many of the "Ford blues" that are sold are NOT correct! I can supply the PPG code for the correct color. Many of the rattle cans are too light or have the wrong tint to them. The corporate blue color was used from 1966 up to the 1981 model year when they switched to the grey color. In my restoration shop we used Seymour paints for the small rattle can jobs and the custom mix PPG for complete engine jobs. Also the original was 80% gloss, not "super glossy" but not flat. We mixed in some flatener to get the right gloss level.

Somewhere in the back of my mind is the notion that the race car engines were left unpainted... Can anyone confirm or deny this? In any case, this might mean that the best paint for a 1075 replica would be a clear coat...
A lot of Shelby's engines were just gloss black.
Here's my $0.02 worth. I have a 1966 Mustang that had a factory 289 (later pulled for a 302 which will be replaced by a 351) which was painted black. It confused me because up to that point, I thought all Ford engines were blue, and every Mustang engine or Hi-Po Ford engine I had seen was painted blue. According to my various Mustang and Ford books, Ford engines were all painted black from 1958 to early 1966. Sometime during the 1966 model year, it was switched to blue. Heck up to 1958, Y-blocks were painted red (try explaining that one to your Chevy friends).

Prior to 1966 Ford/Mercury engines were painted a variety of colors. In the laqte fifties they went to basic black blocks and the valve covers and air cleaners were painted a different color to identify them. Example 1965 289s, black block and either Argent (silver), Light blue, red/orange or gold valve covers dependant upon the carb/HP rating.
To my knowledge all of the 289s used in 40's were 1964/65 vintage and thus would have a black block...or possibly as suggested unpainted.
