This is my first post. I have a question:
The new Ford GT (40) has four foot pedals.
Gas, clutch, brake and ??. What is the remaining pedal used for? Thank you for answering my question.
That's for the afterburner!
Actually, it's nothing more than a rest for the driver's left foot, when not shifting gears. It's sometimes called a dead foot, or dead pedal.
Thank you for answering this question.
Back in 1988 I pruned my choice tree down to two vehicles... ERA or Butler Racing replica AC Cobra. 17,000 miles later, I still drive the Butler. It was a kit I spent almost two years building. I sometimes look back and wish maybe I had chosen to build the GT40.
The GT40 kits were too new and I felt that I should wait awhile.
A dead pedalis well worth having. Alain Prost describes them as 'essential' in his book 'Driving Techniques'. When driving hard you can brace yourself against the dead pedal, holding you firmly in the car & allowing you to feel the car moving.
Also it's a bit dicey resting your foot on the clutch pedal whilst driving, as slight pressure over a long period can kill the CRB & maybe cause clutch slip.
That foot-rest pedal is actually very comfortable on a long trip. It makes a difference on resting your left foot and leg. I'll have one on mine when finished.
