front wheel position

I am playing around with my front suspension again. I was wondering if there was anything close to concensus about how far under the body work the front tyre should be? To me, a modern perfermance car looks great with the tyre right out to the edge of the body work. On a GT40 that look sucks! IMHO of course!

So how far under the body work should the tyre go? 1 inch? 2 inch?

Any pictures showing your ideal would be helpful.

Malcolm,

It's YOUR ideal that counts! Play around, put it where YOU like the look of it! :chug:

Cheers

Malcolm,

This may not help, but in my book, functionality trumps aesthetics every time!

IMHO, the wider the better as long as nothing rubs through the travel.

I go along with Lynn on that one!

Over the years as the wheels got wider they would have moved closer to the outside of the body. The Gulf cars I believe had slightly flared front arches for clearance. You can bet this was the minimum required to prevent wheel/body contact at full lock and full bump. They wouldn't want the body tearing the tyre to bits (or vice versa) during some high speed opposite lock excursion over bumpy ground. If you set yours up like that within the existing bodywork I'm sure it would look right and be optimumly functional as well. I've got a relatively wide stance on my front wheels and will be adopting the Gulf approach.

Cheers,
