Genie Cobra

Allan:
The Cooper Monaco preceded the King Cobra and Genie. The King Cobra was based on the Monaco chassis, relatively large and curved tubes. The Huffaker Genie was, no doubt, influenced by the Cooper, but the chassis is more like a Lotus. It has a triangulated truss of smaller tubes. As for calling the car a "Genie Cobra", there was no connection to Shelby, just a similar engine and the name was used only by that owner.

Sorry it took so long to get these pic's posted.

Ken,
Any chance that you may have any shots of Gurney's Pacesetter Ford Lotus 19? I believe he started running it in '64. Thanks

Bill,
Glad to be of help !

dfreeman95,
I have some info showing Gurney runing a Lotus 19 in 1962,
that may be the one ?

Cheer's,

Posting this for Bill:

Here's a picture of the Genie which I took on 10/20/'06 at a party at Shelby's warehouse in Gardena, CA.

Hello - I'm the new owner of the Huffaker Genie, chassis #3, that was discussed in this thread. This thread (and others) on Pedro and the Genie helped me tremendously as I was doing my research. Thanks.

The car is going back to Joe Sr. and Jr. at Huffaker Engineering at Sears Point to be restored back to the Dan Gurney/Pedro Rodriguez race configuration from 1963.

Bill Watkins - I will be in contact in the coming weeks.

-Tim

There is a track test of the Huffaker Genie Mk 8 serial 003 (as discussed above) in the Nov/Dec 2008 issue of Vintage Motorsport magazine.
