GT Supercars??

GT Supercars appears to make both a space frame and moncoque GT40. Their website also says their cars can be setup to use the 427FE engines. Has anyone built one of their cars? I don't remember ever hearing about this manufacturer.

Bill, GT Supercars is finishing up their monocoque and spaceframe prototypes now. Both frames use a custom hoop, for lack of a better term, that is interchangable and sits between the rear frame uprights and will accept transaxle of choice. They will then put the motor mounts in the frame to accept the powerplant of choice. Give John Hester a call at the number on the website and he will talk with you about this and should be able to answer any of your questions. He is busy in the shop and is probably not checking email too often.

PS I don't have a GTSC frame, but I did buy a set of doors from John and I am very happy with the quality and the transaction. Also see the thread Knows Hester's nose near the bottom of the All GT40 page for another comment on doing business with John.

Thanks Lynn.

The website only shows close-ups of their chassis. I was hoping to see a finished car. Is a close replica of an original GT40 like ERA, RF, and others?

The basic kit price sounds almost too good to be true ($12K). A friend of mine and I are thinking about finally taking the plunge early next year.

Thanks Mike and CCX-

I would like to give John my business. I remember something, somewhere, that John bought the Sabre stuff from some guy in FL!!??

Doesn't the Sabre/GT Supercars kit utilize Corvette suspension/braking components?

I plan on calling John sometime next week.

Thanks to all for shedding some light on this.

Yes. John's molds came from Saber in Florida,
which now markets a GT40 open top roadster.

Saber used Corvette suspension/brakes which
is superior to the English Ford stuff
used by UK based kits.

I believe John's basic kits use Corvette brakes, but with custom built suspension
to more closely replicate the original parts.
You can see his custom cast rear uprights
on his website, and the custom fronts should
be posted in the near future. To my knowledge
no Corvette suspension parts are used.

John Hester's body molds came from Saber
and by all accounts, very nice quality, and as authentic as all the KVA based replicas.

John's first complete car is expected to be finished late October, at which time I'm
sure he'll update his website.

What excites me is that John has promised to
make available in 2003 an accurate MK II body, which at the moment, only ERA offers ($$$).

Speaking of $$$ if you check the other websites, you'll see that $ 12,000 is not
unusual for a basic body/frame kit.
In fact you can get one for substantially
less from Tornado. However Tornado uses
weaker donor parts than John's kit.
