The Black and Silver GT40 "MKII" with the the white lettering FMC 1 is not a MKII or the 1966 Le Mans winner but GT40P/1008 Ford 1965 press car made up to look like The 1966 Le Mans winning MKII.
FMC1 = Ford Motor Company #1
If you have an original GT40, why make it to look like different GT40? In 2005, FMC1 was painted in the blue and orange Gulf colors.
(If you ever see photos of 1030 with Gulf colors, Ford did that for some press photos)
Hi Steve when it first appear in a MKII guise I asked Goodwood why they had a Ford GT40 MKII listed in the program when it was P/1008. Never got a reasonable answer. I do not mind car being made to look like other famous ones. But tell the paying public. After all in 1966 the Le Mans winner could not appear across america without replicas being made.It looked awful in Gulf colours due to the dayglo orange wheels !
It was converted to look like the Le Mans winner several years ago when the Festival of Speed and Le Mans Classic dates clashed, so that Ford had 'the 1966' car at both events. When the chassis was restored a while ago I asked the head of public affairs if we could have it returned to it's original spec., but he said it 'suited us' to have it as the MkII Le Mans winner. The original rear end is in storage he assured me.
