HEEEEELP, what is a really nice KVA worth?

All,
I have a chance to buy a freinds really sweet looking KVA gt-40. It is very well built, V8, and is a right hand drive. What is it worth ... I know difficult... help.
Are the KVA's a good kit? It looks very accurate.

Hard to say, like asking how much is a diamond worth from a picture...
Need solid details and photos to give an estimate.

I know it may be tough, but just imagine a super well put together GT-40, and you'll be imagining this car ... lots of people think it is the real deal. It has a 302 V8 with a 5 speed ... interior is flawless!

If you can, give me a range ... I can not find any real numbers anywhere! He wants an even 30K for the car ... to me it ,,, this is a no brainer, but I do not know the gt-40 kit market ... especially for the KVA. I see the superperformance versions bringing high dollor ... but what about the KVA's

rsdsk,
Initial questions I would have:
What type of KVA is it. A C-Type chassis? or is it an early version?
Is it a standard Renault with no upgrades?
How has the 302 been built?
Is the exhaust a bundle of snakes or just normal collectors?
Wheels: Kock-on or bolt-on?
As Bill Hara says: Pictures are a must

Brett

Sorry ... no photos at this time. The exhausts goes into a collector. The car has the renault tranny with AC. The engine is a mildly built 302.

I'll just throw this out, if it: looks like the paint is nice with good body line gaps, starts, runs, steers, and stops good, seems complete as far as GT40 bits (i.e. side body latches, gas fillers up top, etc.) then 30K seems to be a great price for a fully built and running car. Think if the level of accuracy and overall look is OK for you. I haven't seen one for that price.

USD30k is a cheap price if it is what you say. - A well put together car.

Check if it is titled correctly - so that you can transfer the title to your name without having to jump through Government hoops

Give away for the A type chassis is the rear suspension - have a look at it and see if it looks like http://www.gt40-kva.co.uk/construction.html (first pictures) and is not a good replica set up - it does work but.....

if you can get under the car and see if the rear section lines up correctly with the main chassis (Not all of them did!)

Then check in the rear is it drum or disc brakes at the rear? A lot of KVA's had Drums and these are not really up to stopping the car.

Does it have original style door handles? Quite a few used Escort parts

Does it have the normal GT40 Fuel caps? Flat top not runded? ( About £100 each)

What tyres does it have on - rim size 15 inch is as per originals but tyres are difficult to get (Avons £300 each and Khumo £70 each are the only suppliers for rear tyres)

Do you fit in the car and can you operate the controlls comfortably? Sit in the car for half an hour if you can and see how it fits - everything can be fixed but costs! (Move pedals for longer legs in the UK will cost £2 - £3k)

If you can take along someone else who knows about these cars and get an unbiased opinion it may be hard but some cars look great but are a nightmare underneath and you should walk away - hold onto your money for something better.

But if you are looking for something to potter down the boulevard on a nice day with a big grin on your face you'll get a lot of smiles for the $$$ even if it is an early chassis with drum brakes, incorrect wheels, wrong seats, incorrect fuel fillers etc. - lets face it unless you are a regular Gt40'er you will not know the difference!

The car has 4 wheel disc brakes. Gaps are near perfect and the all parts seem really good replica parts. It is a very early KVA MKI.

at today exchange is for 20.000 euros.
Down here u can neither buy a VW Golf with those money:).
Try anyway to stole pics from the car....guys here will surely tell u if that is a nice car...or not:)

Best

Of course if it's a RML GT40 (KVA type C based) you'd be lucky to buy one under 100k!

It depends on the chassis which you have. Is it the early one with Cortina front suspension and basic trailing arms at the rear or is it a C type chassis with tubular wishbones at the front and long links with reversed bottom wishbone? Are the disks Granada type or upgraded alloy caliper ones? Is the engine a basic spec or ha sit been uprated? Is the manifold a proper crossover type? In the UK an early trailing arm chassis car with standard motor and standard brakes would be about £12,000. A good C type chassis car with a good spec. motor etc could be up to about £20,000. The early chassis are not good but the later C type are OK - the KVA bodies are good. These cars are worth basically the sum of the parts that are in them. If you want a car that sounds and looks OK then the chassis is not as important as if you want to go fast safely with good predictable handling. I strongly suggest you drive the car and get someone who knows these cars to check it over for you.
Hope this helps.

If he is truly serious about selling his car, the seller should email you pictures immediatlely. Put them up for us to see as it is mere guess work without detailed pics.

I got to see the car today again, but I did not take any photos. Sorry. The car is in great shape. I am very impressed at how well this car fits together ... no gaps anywhere. It does have some minor stress cracks around the wheel wells. I am not sure about the engine ... it is a alunimum V8 and stong with a front angled distributor ... set-up like a ford engine, but the angled distrubtor is throwing me off. The ride is good. The ac is working, but not stong. The paint is great! stunning. It is titled as a ford gt.

The engine does look a lot like the 215 rover ,,, however the current owner has indicated that he is sure the engibe is a 1971 ,,, just not sure who made it
