Helping Canadians import the GT40

Hi All,

I want to clear any air of doubt of my intentions and relationships with others with respect to this car.

First, my motives are not monatary. I don't need money to assist others who want to bring the GT40 into Canada. It really didn't matter which company I chose to represent. I have an excellent working and persoanl relationship with Mark Sibley and took this on without requesting a penny.

Second, I have and would never be interested in waging a war between any of the current maufacturers. All build a superb replica. There may be a slight bit of good natured jealousy/envy on my part with Ian Clark and CAV but again, I have no intentions of running as a high-paid salesman.

Third, I could use some assistance. I'm close but I admit there could be things I have missed or could be better educated on by others, like Ian who has generously offered his advice and guidance. I'm a stubborn SOB, and try to go as far as possible without milking the information out of people. I have made the odd inquiry to others but 99% of what I know today was learned from hundreds of hours of research, telephone calls, emails etc...

And with that being said, I encourage anyone who needs questions answered about the legalities of the import laws - don't bust a nut - I've been there, done that so don't hesiate to ask me.

So, I would like to formally extend my hand to anyone out there (Ian) others who would like to get more GT40's into the garages of Canadians. I can be reached at 905-987-4775 and should anyone be available likewise, please let me know and I'll give you a call or email.

I WANT MY DAMM GT40!! - Just like you guys... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks for everyones support - it helps, a lot.

Cheers-

Yes, I'm learning here in the US also. I would have had mine almost two weeks ago, but US Customs don't know @#$&. I have told all concerned that I have 6 boxes of parts, but they are wanting a DOT form filled out. I've told them 3 times now, "IT'S NOT A CAR YET YOU @#$%#&*^ IDIOTS, IT'S A BUNCH OF PARTS THAT WHEN COMBINED WITH THE PARTS AT MY HOUSE, FINISHED AND PAINTED, WILL THEN BE A CAR" Whew, THAT felt better. O.K., now back to stressing about my regular job. AAAAARRRRRRUUUUUGGGGGG!

Everyone have a happy day,
We all have to sit back and laugh about things like this.

Thanks Paolo, Murray - I'll do my best. I guess Jim is feeling some pain right now waiting for the new baby to pass the one-eyed thinking of customs at the moment- Almost there Jim!

Let us know when you get some pics.

Cheers- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jim,I think one of the problems is that when importing car parts, things like brake parts, lights, windows etc. have to be DOT approved I.E have a DOT number. They had a form you had to sign that had several catagories listed-a check the box sort of thing. If you checked the box that said these parts are DOT approved there was no problem.

The shipping brokers were supposed to take care of all that nonsense. Apparently, someone either skipped a step, or is making their first attempt at this. Who knows. All I know is that this mess will probably take forever to get resolved.
