Holly Fuel Regulator Adjustment

When setting the fuel pressure is it necessary or make a difference whether you adjust with the motor running or not running?

Can the wrong pressure, either too low or too high, have an influence on the idle. The reason I ask is my idle will hold steady at 1,100 rpm but after say 45 - 60 seconds it'll drop to 800 rpm.

Deadhead regulators can usually be set either engine off or on and won't make a difference.
I prefer engine off and then verify pressure with active flow while the engine is on. It's rare that I've ever seen a difference.

If the pressure is too high and forcing the needles off the seats at the floats, the engine will start to flood and then you'll see the RPM drop as the engine starts to run rough. 3.5 PSI is what the max usually is for Weber IDAs to my understanding.

Thanks a million Randy. Good info, I'm hoping the symptoms of my idle are simply a pressure adjustment.
