How to private message

The method I've always used is to click on the >NAME< shown on someone's avatar (not just on the avatar itself)...then scroll down to the box labeled "start conversation"...click on that and go for it!

There's probably some other way I don't know about as well, but the above works. ;-)

Is this where I'm supposed to be able to find the place to send a PM to someone? I don't see it. Are there any other ways to send a Private Message?

Thanks for your reply Brian. However, I still have the issue. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong so I took screenshots and placed arrows next to the place where I'm hovering and then clicking to see if you can tell me.

If I hover over the 'B' for Brian above it will display the pop up box as seen below:

Clicking on your name takes me to your profile page. I don’t see the ‘Send Direct Message ‘ box

I hope this helps you see what I'm doing wrong.

Mark, Looking into this deeper, because of new members trying to scam existing member's, near the end of December Ron made it so you need 20 posts to be able to PM. This is not posted that I can see. We have had new guys post really stupid stuff 20-25 times so they could get PM privileges and then try to scam forum members, They were quickly banned. I just checked a new member as I was writing this and banned another guy that was trying to scam someone. We try to monitor this closely.

Regards Brian

Ah. I gotcha and certainly understand that. It will probably be along time until I start posting very much.

Thanks for the information Brian!

Howdy Randy,

I've been a site member for approaching a year and seem to have lost my ability to DM on GT40s.com. By using the search tool, I can see that I formerly sent/received DMs on this site.

I've been searching for GT40s for sale on this site for some time [mostly when not logged-in] but have not yet become a paid member as I don't yet have much I would likely contribute. (I'm guessing you can easily check-out the nature my existing messages). I can become a supporting member if that's the easiest manner to reestablish my DM capability.

FWIW, I know a couple of members of this forum "in real life" and I suspect Howard Jones would gladly vouch for me.... if that's another path to restore my DM privileges.

Thanks in advance; any related wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Brian…
The forum owner has placed a minimum number of forum messages required before you’ve able to send DMs. You’re under that threshold. Unfortunately, there’s no magic button I can push to get around that requirement.

Thanks Ron!

Based on Randy's response, I decided to simply become a "Supporting Member." The aspect that puzzled me was I that could [still] see I had been able to DM in the past, and could even see those old DMs when searching BUT I could no longer determine how to access the functionality to write a new message; I now understand what happened!
