HOW WILL YOU ANSWER: IS IT REAL?

I get this question all the time with my Cobra replica. I am honest and say it is replica (Unique) and then the person asking acts dissappinted and says "Oh, it's a kit car". Then I go into s spiel about how if i were an original, I would not have it out driving, and that replicas are actually better than most (Cobra) originals in terms of performance: handling, braking, suspension, frame regidity.

How will you respond to the question? cb

the license plate on my cobra replica had "UNREAL" on it.
I'll probably keep it for the GT40, since I like the "double meaning" of it.

....or maybe I should get one that says,
UNSLOW

My answer would be, "Of course it is not an actual GT40, the price of those is completely out of my reach. BUT, it is a car that I built with my own two hands which makes it the only one of its kind. Owning a real GT40 would be cool, but I kind of like knowing every nut and bolt, every inch of wire, every hose and AN fitting on this car because I put it there."

In the actual grammatical sense, the answer is of course the car is real...otherwise it would be imaginary. Give 'em a thrill and say
yes...you wouldn't be lying and they'll tell stories about your car for years.

If they ask whether it's an ORIGINAL Cobra/GT
say no...you lost your money in dot.com stock
last year. That may be a fib.

It works both ways.
A while ago I took J6 for a long drive and stopped for a cup of coffee at an upstate diner. When I came out there was a Porsche 911 parked nearby and a guy,who was wearing a Porsche jacket, and his girlfriend looking at my car. "That's one of those kit cars with a VW engine isn't it?" He asked. "Not exactly." I replied. I got in and started up. "It doesn't sound like a VW." Said his girlfriend. "Smart Girl." I answered...

Wow, my fonts are bad. I thought they
were both I's instead of the "J" for EE.

My response will be -- meet me at Sears Point
and I'll show you how real it is.

my response with my cobra is... "yes... you can see it... touch it... its here... yes its real." or depending in the mood... "no. its a figment of your imagination."

this will be the same answer i'll give when my 40 is done.

cheers

The "is it real" inflames many owners. However, it may provide some insight into some fortunate (?) gals' feelings when posed with a "similar" (see John Candy in the movie "summer rental") question.

Just a thought.

This is an interesting thread.....I will use my present girlfriend and ex girlfriend to represent a different perspective.

My ex was "real" and in "stock form"....as much fun as she was, she didnt quite have the performance or "drivabiltly" of my current girlfriend that has been "custom built" and "heavily augmented" from her original specifications. So the point being...real isnt always better.....or something like that. Ok that made no sense.

I have four stock answers

1 What do you think?

2 I wish it was!

3 Do I look like a millionaire?

4 No, it's better.

Steve,

I've thought about putting 427j (for EE types) or 427i (for math types) on my plates ... but I figured nobody would understand

Hey c'mon guys, do we really need to justify our cars to strangers?

My reply would be a simple "No" with a polite smile.
