I've been on this site long enough that I figured I should finally get one of these
Seriously though, I've been in the automotive industry for 33 years (and counting) and after many years of wanting to build a kit car I was finally serious about buying one. I was very much set on a FFR Shelby Daytona as I had no idea where to get a GT40 until I did one last search around the net and re-found this site. I read through some build logs, and to my surprise I found that not only are there great kits available...but Race Car Replicas is less than an hour away from me! My son and I toured the shop and talked with Fran and Bill about both the RCR40 and GT-Rs. I then found a local owner/builder, @Rod Dittmar, that let me check out his car and ultimately took me for a ride in it. I was sold! I placed my order the following Monday. Since then I've chatted with other owners such as @steveklafeta, @Darius Rudis, @kiwi7878, KurbmeisterKlotz, and a few others on what I should/shouldn't do, approach, engineering, and countless other questions. All in all a great community and I can't wait to learn even more as I get into my build.
RCR40 MK1 Deluxe Plus Kit, ordered Oct 1, 2024, picked up Jun 22, 2026.
Step one was to get it home, which was fairly uneventful. Then we got it on the lift and pulled all of the parts out of it. I completed the inventory which led to a few questions to Bill, and marked off what I was supposed to have and not. Few things on back-order or to be drop shipped which I hope don't take too long. Brake lines, AC/Heater, seats, carpet, window hardware, parking brake parts, shifter, fans, and some enclosure panels.
Now to go figure out where to put the front and rear clamshells and doors while I figure out the fuel system and how I want to go about finishing the chassis. One step at a time I suppose.
