Kit from Bailey in South Africa

I have been out looking on different kits to build me an GT40.

What I am looking for is a wellbuilt kit, probably spaceframe, as that is cheaper and I am not looking for "original" but it should handle well and use a Audi or Renault transaxle.

As far I have found out there is Tornado in UK which have quite cheap kits, and also GTS who say that it is possible to order but when I ask him when it is possible to se a kit he doesn't answer.

Then I have found the one from South Africa, Bailey and it looks really nice. The problem is that I need more info re this kit, I want to see one in real life and talk with some owners. Its far to go over to South Africa so is there any kits nearer as Sweden.

Any information re kit manufacturers, good/bad would be appreciated, we have one in Sweden but there is a big warningflag up for him and I have heard that Tornado is near going bust

Try Southern GT in Southampton UK. Speak to Mick Sollis he is a top bloke, always pleasant and has a great product. I have built one, check out my build log, SouthernGT No8.

Thanks,

It looks quite fine even that the kit from Bailey looks better.

The kit from Sweden will not pass SVA control and the manufacturer does not help the builders. One of the problems is the uprights, quality of the aluminum and some of the wheel angels that is not suited for road use and not possible to adjust without re-building the whole front end. As this is an amateurebuilt vehicle is each and every car unique and the approval is personal up to the car is fully registred therefore is an SVA approval not worth anything in Sweden and you have to be very careful when you buy a kit. The Manufacturer must take responsibility for his product and be helpful if there is problems, it has to be built on a donorcar, you can not buy a complete kit from one supplier and so on. So there is a lot of differences in the regulations between UK and Sweden that one have to take in consideration but in the end it is you who is responsible for the build

I have built a SouthernGT and Mick is very helpful. I have also been to the Bailey Edwards factory in South Africa and seen first hand their products. Both are good and very similar in quality.

Anders have you looked into the RCR? There is a distributor in Germany and as I recall their chassis will pass the most stringent of tests..
