I finally got my GT40 down to Laurinburg NC for some aerodynamic testing. The East Coast Timing Association ( http://ecta-lsr.com ) holds a land speed racing event over a 1 mile course. The sanctioning body (actually the insurance company) will only let non-caged cars go 150mph plus maybe 10mph so I was limited to 150mph +10.
The race director informed me that I could grab a Land Speed Record in the Blown Gas Super Street class IF I could go 156mph.
I'll do my best to hold her back.
Your first pass you're held to about 125mph to get the feel of the track and so the officials can get a feel for your abilities. On the second pass I was doing 150 and eased her up to 160 but as I went through the timing traps I was doing closer to 165-170 by my speedo. Argh, they're going to throw me out.
I pulled up to impound to get my wrist slapped and no one seemed to mind I clocked over 162. Actually the PA system failed so they never announced my time or folks would have had a fit. At that point I was 7 mph faster than the standing record so I actually set a new record. Not bad for the Beast's competition debut.
With the outstanding performance and aerodynamic down-force I had to hire an extra trailer just to bring my head back to Virginia.
I have video of the run at http://xtremeclassics.com/x_multi.html The course is a bit bumpy.
And here's some pics at the event http://xtremeclassics.com/x_photo.html about half way down.
