For Mirage fans, here is a photo of Mirage #10001, taken in 1978 at Harley Cluxton's shop in Phoenix. I was there arranging to buy GT40 #P1040 and wandered around snapping photos. My vague recollection is that the Mirage was 50 percent more expensive than the GT40. I had already gone into huge (for the time) debt to buy the GT40 and couldn't raise a nickel more. For some reason the Mirage did not grab me visually the way the GT40 did. I think it also had a Hewland crash box. The Mirage had a much more extensive racing history than the ex-Filipinetti #P1040, but 28 years ago a car's history wasn't as valued as it is today. From the looks of the louvered nose on the left side of the Mirage #10001, I think that car was a later-series Gulf Mirage. Guesses on the red car to the right? I'm thinking Ferrari PB. Cluxton seemed to have the franchise on them in those days.
