Monocoque side sill attachment

I need to attach the side sills to my Mirage Automotive chassis and if you look here....

Ford GT40 Restoration - Chassis 1036

It shows what looks like bolts holding the sills to the floorpan. It also shows 'correct' rivets holding the rear floor to the chassis.

What fastners are used for the sills? and what rivets for the rear section?. My chassis has spot welds where the rivets are.

Hi Doc,

FWIW (and as compared to yours my SPF is not as accurate) the SPF has spot welds as yours in the rear section but, the sills are attached to the floorpan with allen head screws/bolts (makes for easy removal for cleaning).

Andy,
Opinion : Cill plating should be spot welded to the ribs throughout. The silver bolts in your photo are tabs to hold the fibreglass cill skins.

Can you clarify what you mean by side sills? Do you mean the fiberglass outer skins which cover the ribbed areas of the sponsons? (we used nutserts and SS screws to hold mine on) Or is there another piece there? The outer skin of the sponson is spot-welded on, no question about that.

When I saw pictures of your chassis in the build log, I was wondering WHY the cills were not welded to the ribs. Is there any reason if Mirage didn't?

Olivier.

We must be talking about two different things. What is a sill? The only thing outside the fuel sponson on my car is the fiberglass rocker panel, which is bolted on using nutserts and stainless screws.

My bad.... I was talking about the outer skin of the sponson. I saw the 'Racing Icons' site and didnt know about the screws used to attach the glass sills to the sponson.
