My GT40 project is dead.... Help me

Hi,

I always think that the GT40 Replica is the most beautiful car in the world. This is the kit car I want. I sit down in a orignal frame # in Europe /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif (Franco Sbarro office).

I always review my budget, I'm always around 37 000 - 40 000 USD for a good replica.

I budget a FFR Cobra Daytona Coupe for around 28 000 USD with 450+hp, T-56 6 speed, 17" wheels. All FFR kits come very complete (gauges, seats, Simpsons harness, headers, side-pipes, lights, windshield, windows, Steering, steering column, lots of fastener, bolts, fuel cap, shocks......

If somebody can help me to have my GT40 for around the same price of the FFR /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif I can't put more money in my second car (Toy summer car for me in Canada).

I simply love the GT40...... It's the dream car of my life.

I want to have a good and clean Replica with a Factory Name that people know. If I need to sell it one day, I want to have a good price.

Your best bet is to purchase a completed GTD from the UK and have it brought over. Bring it over sans motor and tranny, it is the same as bringing in a roller from CAV, ERA, RF, etc. There are ones priced in the $30-$35k range but that is as low as I've seen. You'll easily have that much in completing that Coupe. Projects ALWAYS cost more than you think....

What Ron said. GTDs and Tornados can be had at a reasonable price in the UK.

Alternatively, you may consider this: As I recall, you have fabrication and machining skills, right? Perhaps you could find a niche within the GT40 community where you can offer your services to GT40 vendors, in exchange for a reduction in the price of a kit, or to GT40 owners/builders, for money which can be put toward your dream car. You could also become a valued member of the GT40 community by doing so...look at people like Frank Catt, Wayne Presley and Mark Sibley, for example (I'm sure I left others out - no offense to anyone. Of course, you will need to establish a good reputation for supplying quality parts and services.

Let me give you a couple examples using my RF project. One would be the #7 exhaust pipe for those who bought exhaust systems from the infamous George Cochran. If you look at pictures of Hershal's car, he had to dimple the top of his #7 pipe to clear his rear clip because George screwed up the fitment. I'm nearly certain I will face the same problem. So my options are to either live with it, or get an entirely new exhaust system, or to find somebody who can take some measurements and fabricate a new #7 pipe. Is this something you could do? I would pay you a fair price and I'm sure others would as well.

Here's another example...how about making adapter plates and mounting brackets, etc. to convert an Audi 016 gearbox to an 01E? I think a lot of these CAV guys with big-torque motors will be in the market for a stronger gearbox pretty soon, and if you could develop the parts and market them before CAV then you could carve out a nice niche for yourself and make it easier to get your own GT40. How about dog bone adapters to fit Porsche Big Reds to an RF?

I don't know the extent of your fabrication skills, but if you are capable then we could use someone to develop and market go-fast parts.

Mark, I'm sure that I can fix your problem.

On those pictures, you can see the custom equal lenght headers and down pipe (from turbo to exhaust pipes) I did in my last swap J-Spec Subaru engine. Don't forget that this is a Boxer H4 engine with a single turbo on upper passenger side. All this system was made in 306 stainless steel, MIG sanitary weld. Equal lenght vary of approx. 4%. This is the kind of job I do... and more. Ask and I will let you know if I'm able to solve the problem.

I think I can help peoples of GT40 forum, but for thing like adaptor plates, it's harder because I need to have all the parts in my hand to do a good job. With headers, it's easier, I only need a 302-351 old engine to keep headers at the good place and your request of size.
