Chris,

That's basically a turnkey minus, not just a kit? Engine + trans and go?

At least this one looks better than the old Laser 917 kits that were a characterature of the the Porsche 917. Now we need a 512 replica and we can relive the mid 60's through the early 70's.

This would be awesome... Unfortunately the drivetrain alone would easily add US$10K... I'll stick with American iron!

This car is built by a guy called Andrew Keilor here in Melbourne, Australia. I have had a good look at the car and his work is great. He was lucky enough to get a loan of a lot of original parts from a promenent Porsche owner again here in Melbourne and with the help of a few others that I also know has come up with this GEM !!!!!

Andrew is a good guy and I have no problems sending people to him. I would love one of his cars myself. A good friend has just completed a marrage of two 6 cylinder Porsche engines and made a flat twelve for hid 917. One of the engines is contra rotated and he made the WHOLE mechanical injection system himself. I love this lack of respect that can be found over here in Aus. We can do that is only a matter of application and this is very evident in this car.

Andrew was a ilustrator for an airline company (those great line drawings that we all admire so much - he drew ). His attention to detail is great.

Best wishes,

Robert Logan

Hi Robert

Nice comments! How are the house prices in Melbourne it sounds as though I just may come and join you down under. The UK is going nuts and I think its getting time for a move.

The original 917's were very delicate. Some drivers pressurized the chassis and hooked a psi gague to the dash. If the pressure dropped they stopped as it meant the car was about to come apart. If you pressed to hard on the brake pedal you could bend the footbox. Hopefully this kit is beefed up as were the later 917's. Beautiful cars.

Hi all

Forman (NF) make a P4 replica in the UK is this car also known as a 512?

Hi Mk 4J6

I have know found a photo of the 512. Its ok but I think the P4 is better looking. I Like the rounded 60's style

Don't forget the Lola T-70 coupe.
IMHO that car is as sexy as these other great sports racers.

Does GTD still offer that kit?

Is it me, or would a picture of an RF40 in
full Gulf regalia sitting next to this
917 be a sight to behold!

I agree with Lynn, if an Aussie had the
gumption to make a 512 replica, the 3
companies could market well together --

Hi Mk4 J6

E-mail the photo to me and I will be happy to post it for you, or check out the back threads, or e-mail Dick Townsend for detail.

Chris

Ray Christopher still has the Lola T70 Molds

I have a photo which may be appearing on the GTD40 Car Club site soon if Paul accepts it, and once he has sorted out the site proper. I was at Silverstone once with my car (gulf coloured) and there was the sister car to Ray Bellm's Mclaren F1 in the modern gulf colour scheme which won the GT championship in 1996 next to chassis 13 Porsche 917K (the Steve McQueen car I beleive)in the old gulf colour scheme. I had a chat with the stand organizer and the barriers were moved aside and my car rolled in to place and I shot some pics. Then the guy let us into the F1 (more pics) and would have done the same for the 917 but he couldn't find the remote for the alarn control. Damn it! The pics are not great but at least I was there! Oh and then I went out and had 1/2 hour free track time on the GP circuit with hardly any other cars. Another good day out with my 40!

Malcolm

PS and now I know someone who has ordered up an LMK 917 and I can't wait to see it....

Chris,

Its Melbourne !!!

How can you hope tp live here if you cant sell it !!!!!!!

Honestly, my house is some 5200 square feet and in a nice area close to a beach and would cost Sterling 150,000.

The beer is COLD and the weather is fine and therefore the 'sheilas' wear only enough to cover the important bits!

I have traveled all over the world with my last life in the Royal Navy and this is as close to heaven as it gets. No language problems, and the weather you like.

All welcome,

Best wishes,

Robert
