The movie is about beating Ferrari at LeMans. Let's face it, the results weren't exactly stellar before Shelby became involved.I must have missed the bit where Ford asks a small English car designer / constructor to build a Le Mans car for him. Maybe that scene is on the cutting room floor?
The car was developed incredibly quickly, so it's hardly unexpected that it would require some development. Broadley wanted an aluminium tub; Ford said steel, and the heavy car was hard on its brakes and broke the weak Colotti transaxles in the early races. The too-high nose, mimicking the Mustang show car, contributed to front-end lift. And so on. But you know all this, I'm sure. I was just pointing out, in what I thought was a tongue-in-cheek way, that the movie will most likely portray Shelby as the guy who designed the GT40, when that really isn't the case. Because Hollywood. The movie is about beating Ferrari at LeMans. Let's face it, the results weren't exactly stellar before Shelby became involved.
I would suggest reading "Go Like Hell" as it was the source of the film script. Also Leo Levine's "Dust to Glory", and then watch The 24 Hour War on amazon prime.Who is going to be spending October re-reading "Ford vs Ferrari"? I'm moving it to the top of the pile for reading.
