Off to the paint booth, again.

Well I have finally started to do some body work that was needed after I tagged the tires at Run and Gun last year. There isn't any damage to the fiberglass, I just wanted to tighten up my gaps(after seeing Chucks car) and change my rear flare shape to a more gulf type flare. Since I had some pretty deep scratches this is the perfect time to make any changes.

I was wondering, given some of the amazing cars that have shown up here over the last year or two, what are some of the little details that make a car more original? Like side number lights or a roof vent? What have you seen that you thought was a cool detail?

Hi Dean,
I made myself a roof vent in the style of the gulf cars and added a marker light to the tail section. Also installed the original inner ducting.

Dean and Martin,
All of the pictures of P-1076 that I have seen shows that there are no roof vents. That's not to say that other cars did not have these. As I recall, the MKII cars have a vent on the roof and I have seen one narrow tail car (two tailights) that was painted in Gulf Blue that had a roof vent that went across the entire back of the spider, but I am unsure of that number. Better minds on this forum can enlighten us on this subject I am sure. As for other mods, I see that you have an RCR chassis and these have the Two-post closures for the back clip I believe, that is a sticking point with me as all of the MKI cars that I have seen has this particular closure. SPF has a single post like the MKIIB cars, so they get it right with these models, but not the MKI cars. A small point for some I am sure, but I can tell right away when looking at the top of the car with the clip open. So much for my input, I will let others weigh in on this question.

I haven't seen all of these but comtemplating them for my build:

- Lexan Deflector in front of the windshield -
- Roof vent (already mentioned) -
- Adjustable rear spoiler -
- Canards or a better front air-dam/splitter -
- Rear snorkles (I know their a Mk2+ item, but they're functional) -
- Brake fluid recirculators -
- 12v Detmar or Atwood bilge blowers for the brake air ducts (makes them functional at low speeds) -
- Cockpit tuneable sway-bars (blade type) -
- GPS base Data Acquisition like the G2X (had one and it was great) -
- Cool Shirt system for the driver (have one and love it!) -
- Fresh air helmet duct / fan / filter (had one and loved it) -
- Split-screen lipstick cameras -

Hi Garry,
1076, 1075 and 1074 all had the small roof vent i've tried to replicate on mine. Its quite inconspicuous, but it's there. Take a close look at any above shot, or any shot from the rear. You can't see it from the front.

The Guerney flap is another good mod, especially if you are replicating 1083.

I like the idea of the lexan wind deflector. I'll have to do that on mine. Nice one Randy.

DEan

your car is already pretty close, the things which would make it looking more like the original race cars are:

wide 15" wheels ( front10" and rear12-14") black or magnisia look ,no polished rim
vintage racetires ( AVON or DUNLOP)
Gulfshaped flares
originalstyle rear frame and clip mounting
Correct mirrors
rear aluminium spoiler ( gurney flap) adjustable
functional front and rear brake ducts
black chassis
less shiny parts ( like spinners and fuelcaps sandblasted ) more patina

onby some pics of 1021 to express what i mean

Found a photo of 1075 showing the roof vent.
I had to look hard for a photo that showed it well as its well hidden in most shots.

Martin,
Thanks Bro, I did not have that angle of the roof in my files. By the way, I wonder if that vent leaks in the rain.:lipsrsealed:

Dean, I forgot to mention in my previous post that there are some pictures of P-1083 on that site that I posted. You may find that your car already looks a lot like that beauty. By the way, I can't see a spoiler on the back of that car from the rear shot. Just a beautiful 302 Gurney-Westlake with ZF transaxle, oil cooler on the right side, etc.
Garry

Garry, thanks for the help. I have the spoiler, just not installed but it is ready to go.

Tom, I can't do the black chassis now. Anything but powder coat would just not hold up to the way I use this car so polished aluminum is the best option for maintenance reasons. The rest of the suggestions will get done. I have already started on the rear hinges. Fran is glassing up the gulf flares, the wheels and tires are decided and will be ready for spring. I like the sand blast idea on some of the "bling".

That's exactly what I am looking for!

Cup holders . . . . .

Just kidding.

Did you get the wiper E mail?
