Leaving out the really boring shopping trolleys, in order of appearance :

- 1951 MG TD
- 1953 Studebaker Straight-8 Hearse (great for drive-in movies, parked sideways !)
- 1969 MGB
- 1968 MG Midget Mk3
- 1968 Mini Cooper S
- 1971 Datsun 260Z
- 1979 Jaguar XJS V12
- 1968 MGB (backup for the Jag !!)
- 1986 Toyota Celica
- 1971 Corvette Convertible (under resto)
- 1995 Toyota Landcruiser
- 2000 Toyota Landcruiser
- 1993 BMW 730iL (current driver)
- 1989 Corvette Convertible (swapped for GT40)
- GT40 Australia (DRB) Chassis 027 (under way)
- 2002 Holden (Opel) Astra Convertible (wife got all sporty !)
- 2003 Honda Integra (wife got hair messed up in above !!)

I recently muttered something along the lines of "I don't know what I am going to do when the '40 & the 'Vette are finished" & whilst the word "divorce" wasn't mentioned directly, there was a suggestion that I start looking for a one-bedroom house with a 10-car garage !!

My list may pale in comparison to others posted here, but here are some vehicles which I have owned, ranked in order of their significance to me:
1. 1934 Ford 3 window coupe, all steel, chopped top, Merc flathead powered. Built, restored and rodded by me over a twenty-five year period. Still own.
2. Scratch built GT40. Unfinished.
3. 1932 Ford 5 window coupe hot rod with Olds then Pontiac V8s owned from 1960-1966.
4. 1968 Ford Mustang 2+2 428 CJ factory pre-production lightweight Winternationals homoligation car. One of fifty built by Ford. Restored then sold about 5 years ago.
5. 1963 1/2 Ford 427 Galaxie 500XL fastback "R" code. Restored then sold about 3 years ago.
6. 1962 Ford Galaxie 406 "G" and "B" codes. Owned three, still have two.
7. 1953 Matchless G-80 500cc single cylinder dirt track racer. Owned in college. Wish I never sold it.
8. 1964 Corvette Sting Ray roadster. Bought it during my "rebellious college years" (my dad owned the local Ford dealership). Totaled it drag racing but I learned a good lesson in that one. Owned a couple of other 'Vettes later but don't consider them "significant" (although my wife will disagree with the significance of one of them as she got a nasty burn on her calf from the exposed side pipe while climbing out of it, but this is my list, not hers).
9. 1973 Datsun 240Z. I noticed a lot of others in this thread shared my enthusiasm for the "Z-car".
10. Lots of other interesting stuff, but I won't bore you guys with any more details. In retrospect, I still own four of the above nine, so that's not too bad, I guess.
I would like to put some pictures up here but I can't figure out how to get Sony Imagestation URLs to work for me (I press the "Image" button and paste in the URL but when the post comes up it doesn't show the image??? I know I am doing something wrong, like maybe getting a bad URL, etc., but can't figure out what. If anyone can tell me how to do it I would appreciate it. Thanks.)
Best regards, Orin Meyer

1929 Chevy Junior (with dickie seat)
1960 Morris Minor 850 (absoloutely original)

327 Holden Monaro (GM Aussie Muscle Car)
1978 911 Carrera Supersport
1997 Ferrari 355 F1
1997 Subaru ST1 206Kw

Still have:
1962 190 SL190 Mecedes (being restored)
1977 750SS Ducati
1973 750 SF3 Laverda / Ducati hybred Race bike (project I must get back to one of these days)
GT40's... lovely!!

I've lost count over the years, since I've pretty much been in the car business before I even had a license.

I do remember my wife keeping a "list" as a joke back when we first started dating. She found it interesting that I never seemed to show up with the same car. I believe she told me I went through 12 cars the first year we were dating. (my senior year of high school)

Well, here are the "personal cars" I have fond memories of:

71 formula 350 firebird (bought this car & sold it for a small profit before I had a license. I was 14 years old)

71 lemans sport convertible. (beautiful car, my neighbor sold me because he didn't want his daughter to crash it.... Of course the second time I drove it, I hit a truck with it
rolleyes.gif
) Still didn't have my license as I just turned 15 & only had a "learner's permit"

72 olds cutlass "S" (bright orange, and took the abuse of a tennager well)

65 442 (this one had a 455 cubic inch big block with a 4 speed, and two 4 barrel holley carbs on an offenhauser intake. Ridiculously fast and dangerous as the brake were stock drums. This is the car I "learned" to drive a manual transmission with.)

77 pontiac trans-am (what can I say,,,,I saw the movie with Burt Reynold and had to have a black tans-am..... stop laughing at me)

70 GTO (I really miss this one! Fabulous car. I was just too young to realize what I had.)

71 MGB GT (very cute, one owner car,,,too bad it was a mechanical piece of.....)

79 trans-am (I liked my black 77 so much that I got a 79, which is the last year for a "REAL" Trans-AM with a true pontiac engine 4speed & T-tops)

55 chevy 2 door (cool old car I bought as a basket case & did a "frame off" restomod on. Wife hated it so I sold it. ....note to self, never pay attention to wife's thoughts about a car again!)

72 formula 455 firebird (really miss this one too! Pontiac "sundance" orange one owner very nice car that would pass anything but a gas pump)

68 442 convertible (nice cruiser)

68 porsche 912 (my first personal porsche, slow, ugly and well, slow)

69 porsche 911 "RSR Carrera body" replica(this one had a killer 2.8 motor in it that was definately not slow,,, I sold this car to put a down payment on our house.)

85 porsche 911 targa (gaurds red, borla exhaust, BBS wheels, very nice, but I hated the targa top after a while. Just didn't like the looks of the big back window)

89 porsche 911 coupe(nice car, white/blue with white fuchs, great driver)

porsche 944 turbo(got it real cheap, but wasn't impressed with the car when compared to my other porsches)

1986 190e 2.3 16 valve (fun car! wolf in sheeps clothing. cosworth head, stainless header, getrag 5 speed. Liked it so much I bought a second one to make a SCCA clubracer with)

1979 ferrari 308 GTS (after working on these I should have known better, but it was a great deal and 79 was the last year for carbs,,,so I bought it. Wife wasn't very happy when I brought it home, so I kept it for about a month & sold it for a nice profit.)

1998 FFR cobra replica (used the profit from the 308 to buy a cobra kit from FFR. Built the car in 4 months, then put 8k miles on it. Most fun car I ever had,,,,but it wasn't the "ultimate",,,,I was lusting for a GT40)

1992 mercedes 500e "RennTech"(current daily driver. I don't think I'll ever sell this one. This car is a total sleeper. The original owner spent over 20k on RennTech high perf parts & had me do all the work. I've known the car since it was new & jumped on it when I had the chance to buy it. It has won it's class in Car an Driver magazine's "One Lap of America" rallye, beating the factory GM, AMG, and even the RennTech team. Comfortable commuter car, yet will blow the doors off a C5 corvette, easily!)

I'm sure there are more,,,but these are the ones I would love to have back.....

This is fascinating..I'm going to leave out the 'shopping trolleys' and divide my list into:
Glad I no longer have:
Jaguar E type (nothing but trouble)
Honda Civic (POS)
59 Corvette (boulevard cruiser)
MB 300SEL 3.5
Porsche 924S (worst car I've ever owned)

Wish I still had:
MB 240D (not a hot rod but reliable in the extreme)
Beck 550 Spyder (like sitting on a volcano)
MB 300SEL 6.3 (see volcano note above)
Toyota Landcruiser 1987 (4wd paragon of virtue)

Still have and love:
Ferrari Mondial t cab 1990
Mini Cooper (old style)
MB 300CD coupe (a sweetheart)
1966 Fender Telecaster (whoops, how did that get in there?)

This thread reminds me of the old story about the dance hall and the shoebox, except that in this case some of the other folks' shoeboxes look awfully good to me...

Hoping to have a GT40 some day...

Question: How do you guys manage to survive the sale of so many wonderful cars? I tend to have a love affair with my special cars and it breaks my heart to part with them... well maybe that's just me
smile.gif

Anyway, here is my list of interesting cars...

* 1956 FJ Holden. Ended up fitting a highly modified turbo-charged 3ltr six cylinder - Did 0-100kmh in 7 sec with a 2 second turbo lag!! This was my first ever car and finaly sold it at the age of 35.

* 1990 Toyota MR2 - could take it around a 90 degree corner at 60kmh with no tyre squeel

* 1969 Triumph TR6 - just a real fun car

* 2000 Triumph Daytona 955i - You recon a GT40 is quick?

* RF GT40

My partner had a 1980 Triumph Spitfire 1500 but now she drives a Mazda MX5 (Miata).

Fun Topic!

1973 1959 Ford pickup long wide Box 6
cylinder Fire Engine Red
1974 1965 Ford Thunderbird Landau
(Loved that car so much I waxed
the paint off of it)
1975 1972 Toyota station wagon (
Thunderbird got 12 mpg and the
Toyota 25)
1976 1960 Ford pickup short wide box.
Started with a 292 y block, went to
a 351 Cleveland, and then install
a 440 6 pack. The Cleveland was
fast but the 440 was brutal. Not
much for going around corners but I
absolutely destroyed Corvettes and
Camaros when I could get the
traction.
1977 1973 Dodge Charger SE. Had a 170 hp
2 bbl but with 8” True Spokes and
with a bit of a rake it was a
real looker
1980 69 El Camino (junk)
1982 1967 MGB
1984 1976 For shorty van with a 351
Windsor. Blew that up and installed
a Cleveland. Another sleeper.
Wanted more power so I installed a
punched out 429. Should have kept
the Cleveland.
1986 1972 Jaguar XJ6
1990 1987 Jaguar XJS. Gorgeous white
Jaguar with 8” Dayton knock-off
wire wheels and 60 series tires it
looked great
1995 1989 Toyota Supra turbo
1999 Toyota Tacoma

Frankly I have no idea what I want next. None of the newer cars excite me. Might get a Porsche.
