I usually don't chime in on these issues because you will never change someone's mind about this specific issue, but this time I will

1) taking away the right to keep and bear arms for LAW ABIDING CITIZENS does NOT stop crime or atrocities like this on at the Navy yard.

case in point, this Navy yard is located in a part of our nation that has outlawed guns - you can be arrested for carrying a spent cartridge or empty magazine - - - and yet, this still happed in what the media would have you believe is a "safe zone" BULLSHIT.

we need to focus on stopping crime, fixing our laws that cater to the criminal, and taking a serious look at our legal system overall.

The barn door was opened when the first pilgrims stepped foot in this country - Criminals will never surrender there weapons (of any type) - we need to find a solution that does not destroy the rights of 99% of the population while putting them at greater risk from criminals who won't comply.

Rant off

let the flames begin

Mark, I am a great believer in history repeating itself and people do not learn from history.
Anyone who has read the decline and fall of the Roman Empire will see the comparison between then and now. Rome ruled the world followed by a total decline in morality, respect for the people by the rulers and an we are invincible and all powerful attitude.
Can anyone see a parallel with America today?
We allow people to watch ever increasing violence and explicit sex in the movies and on the net. Think Christians fed to the lions and gladiators, think bacchanalia.
Do I need to go on?
First step, bring back the cane in school, if the parents can't teach respect let the teachers.
Bring back National service, let them serve their country for two years both boys and girls and let them learn some military discipline.
Have compulsory minimum sentences for felony's, no more light sentences because someone had a deprived childhood.
Bring in the death penalty for assault with a gun and stop the endless appeal system that allows someone who has been convicted and sentenced to death to spend years on death row at taxpayers expense.
And before Keith says it if all else fails deport them to Australia!

Remember when mom & dad used to raise their kids with morals and a good work ethic with the intent one day that child would have the ability to support ones self and hopefully have a positive impact on society..
Well along comes the government with its social engineering and throws a monkey wrench into the equation.....No need for you to get to bed early kids cause it really doesn't matter if you're ready for school or not....cause you really don't need a good education for a job....cause you really don't need a job.... cause Mr sugar daddy big government will send you a check every month for free....so kids why not stay out late night drifting through the streets hanging with gang members who are already morally bankrupt, maybe find yourselve some hoes looking for another baby so we can keep this wonderful cycle going and going and going..
sincerely yours
The Government.

So, Guys,

Alexis, 34, who had a history of psychological problems and was deteriorating, hearing voices. Military officials said he had a disciplinary record that included insubordination and disorderly conduct.

Further in his past, Alexis was accused three years ago of accidentally firing a bullet into an upstairs apartment, and nine years ago of shooting the tires of another person’s car during an anger-fueled blackout in Seattle.

So Pete do you think its OK for someone who has a history of psychological problems, was deteriorating, hearing voices, had several gun related issues should be allowed to walk into a gun store and buy a gun?

Which he did last week.

Jim this guy gave his life accomplishing what he set out to do..
do you really think any stupid gun law could have stopped him.....HA no way in hell brother

I'll ask again,

Do you think its OK for someone who has a history of psychological problems, was deteriorating, hearing voices and had several gun related issues in the past, to buy a gun?

Should this person be allowed to walk into a gun store and buy a gun?

So you are saying that this gun dealer broke the law?

If the gun dealer broke the law, this is now a gun related crime that should be prosocuted to the fullest extent of the law, RIGHT?

Jim, you obviously did not read my post, or at best only skimmed it. I said anyone committing an assault with a gun should be given the death sentence, shooting a cars tires out would in my view constitute assault with a gun and therefore no, I do not think so. And if the gun dealer who sold him the gun knew his history, if he did and sold him a gun, yes he should be prosecuted.
As should the person or persons who issued him with a pass to the secure (lol) Navel dockyard should also be prosecuted.
Now Jim how about you get off your favourite hobby horse and start thinking about what is really wrong with our global society?

Uuuuuuuuuuh...has anyone besides me noted that, yet again, a "GUN-FREE ZONE" was chosen as 'ground zero' here???

Further, did anyone else note that, yet again, the people who were OBEYING the "gun-free zone" law were the only one's who were dying until those whom 'the laaaaw' allows to do so showed up with their guns and put and end to the puke? 'Same ole crap we saw at Columbine, V.T. and on and on and on. 'Defenseless, 'fish-in-a-barrel' targets provided courtesy of the all-knowing, anti-gun libs in govt.

'Anyone else see a chronic PROBLEM with all the above? 'Anyone else see what needs to be CHANGED - as in 30 years ago???

'Utter madness...

Right-on Larry. I have been attempting to refrain from posting because it's the same
crap all over again. Some of our "intelligent" Congressmen are already lobbying for more
gun control. Some will NEVER get it!

That's a-l-w-a-y-s their knee-jerk reaction, Jack. "We'll pass even MORE laws! THE NEW LAWS will end all the gun crime the OLD one's didn't! Crooks and loons will be SCARED TO DEATH to violate THESE NEW laws! You'll see!"

Really..............????????????????

(Edit) Here's a question for the usual suspects: How would taking all MY guns away from ME last week have prevented this latest loon from doing what he did?

They won't touch that with a 50 ft pole.

Who votes for the silly buggars? If they thought they could get more votes by lobbying for banning cars they would do so. I don't know and can't be bothered with looking it up, but I bet more people got killed in car accidents last weekend
Than got killed in the navel dockyard.

So Pete,

I know you believe that the "Global Society" is going to hell, you said in part due to a "total decline in morality", respect........

You that that part of the problem is violent videos, violent games and pornography.....

I say bullshit society is getting better daily, this is seen in the data:

Violent crime....................DOWN
Property crime..................DOWN
Murder............................DOWN

Pete why if society is failing, why are the crime rates down?

As I said earlier no one learns from history. If I was an angry old white guy and wanted to blow people away I'd take my weapon to a gun free zone!
Hang on as a respecter of the law I handed my weapons in.

So Jim if society is getting better daily, you note I used your words, why ban guns? Good attempt at avoiding the real question and continuing with your agenda though:dead:

Jim, to answer your question -

If a gun store owner sold this guy a gun 14 days ago

1) because the required federal check prior to purchasing a gun came back CLEAN then yes indeed - the Federal GOVERNMENT committed a crime and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

2) because the store owner did not file paperwork or ignored paper work (this assumes store owner was made aware of this assholes condition by the government / military), then YES the store owner should be prosecuted to the full extent of the APPROPRIATE laws (and there are dozens that could apply already on the books).

If the bastard bought the gun illegally, the person(s) involved should be hunted down and prosecuted too.

Jim - you and I will never agree on gun ownership - I believe in my right to own -

but, we can both agree, if a gun is used in a crime - the criminal should not get a 2nd chance to do it again - ever,

If a gun owner allows his weapon to be used in a crime - he/she is also guilty
if a gun owner allows a child access to a weapon when he/she is not around they are also guilty.

Blame / convict / punish the GUILTY in these issues.

Pete,

I'm supprised at you!

Yes crime is going down, yes the World is getting better, but you may be OK with 30,000+ US gun deaths per year, but I'm not.

Murder is declining, violent crime is declining, even gun murder is declining!

Cars are now much safer, many many laws pertaining to auto safety have been passed auto deaths have declined subtantially.

The number of yearly gun deaths are now passing the yearly number of auto deaths.

These strict auto safety laws have saved thousands and thousands of of lives.

I'm sure you are OK with those laws, right?

Yet the gun lobby refuses to alow ANY laws to limit gun deaths.......WHY?
