OMG

Yet the gun lobby refuses to alow ANY laws to limit gun deaths.......WHY?[/QUOTE]

Jim idealistic and realistic come to mind here, ideally a total global gun ban would result in no gun deaths but in reality its just never going to happen. If a gun exists or is made anywhere in the world its going to fall into the hands of criminals and murderers in the underworld .It may stop the odd nutter shooting a dozen people down in the street but in the absence of a gun the same nutter will probably resort to mowing the same dozen down with a car. Gun restrictions will do nothing to stop this.

Hey, use a car, or a knife or Pete's fertilizer concoction....that's OK, right? It wasn't a gun crime. But if you use your GT40 all you'll have is a bunch of people with broken ankles. I hope I never have to un-holster a gun again......but I sure want to retain the right to do so to defend myself or my family. We had an infamous home invasion here in town (Cheshire) in which having a gun handy might have / might not have made a difference. That's water under the bridge but I don't want to stand idly by and watch my family assaulted while I ponder the ethics of gun/no gun politics.

So Jim if society is getting better daily, you note I used your words, why ban guns? /QUOTE]

Pete,

I'm supprised at you!

Yes crime is going down, yes the World is getting better, but you may be OK with 30,000+ US gun deaths per year, but I'm not.

Murder is declining, violent crime is declining, even gun murder is declining!

Cars are now much safer, many many laws pertaining to auto safety have been passed auto deaths have declined subtantially.

The number of yearly gun deaths are now passing the yearly number of auto deaths.

These strict auto safety laws have saved thousands and thousands of of lives.

I'm sure you are OK with those laws, right?

Yet the gun lobby refuses to alow ANY laws to limit gun deaths.......WHY?
Jim, banning guns does not prevent gun crime, almost two decades ago Australia banned guns. Nothing has changed the bad guys didn't hand theirs in.
Now before you post another graph I know death by gun has decreased. Mostly because suicidal people have stopped using guns. They now hang themselves or jump off buildings or bridges.
Bad guys still have their guns, five or six people were shot in Sydney last Month.
The solution is not a total ban, read my previous posts slowly I have come up with some solutions that I am sure would work.
Now I am no longer going to discuss the gun issue with you. You are a zealot and cannot be reasoned with on this problem.
I respect your point of view, it is the same as my wife's, and I have learnt not to discuss the matter with her either. For different reasons obviously. And Di was once a member of a pistol club. Go figure! Anyway end of discussion with you on this matter. Stay well.
