Parking Brake question..

So, the car is now on the road and we are just debugging various issues. Are these parking brakes known to have issues holding the car? We adjusted them and handle is tight when engaging them, but apparently the car can still roll, even on a very small incline.

I did a search and it appeared there was a known issue, but also I thought I read that there was an upgrade. I am just curious if these are the "upgraded" parking brakes.

Also, I'll note that there was no spring installed on the cable when the car was received. I read that there may be a coil-bind issue, but that is not the case here.

Ryan,

I’m not sure IPSCO makes these calipers anymore. I think RCR now ships Wilwood electric parking brake calipers. Most builders have thrown in the towel on these. I was hoping by removing the spring I could get them to work.

I found the documentation from IPSCO. Maybe this helps you dial it in

The ones in that document are a little different than the ones on this car. The cable mount isnt the same. Looks like the same "idea" but the cable mounts and threads in and the cable goes straight up. This is from shortly after I received the car, you can see the cable goes straight up and is missing the spring that most people say binds up.

I don't have the car anymore, I am just trying to help the owner sort through some issues.

They make three different styles of cable attachments. As long as it’s pulling I assume it is working as designed. Keep in mind, just about every builder has thrown them in the garbage. I haven’t yet, but may have to as well.

my RCR40 uses Brembo brake calipers operated mechanically. The cables have needed adjustment every now and then. They work to hold the car on a serious slope, however, upon every annual inspection the mechanic comments that they are ``weak'...

i tried and tried even though Cam Thai told me it was useless, he was right . I switched to Tesla calipers and Pantera controls . Now thye work perfectly and lots of cheap spare parts available. I replaced the motors just to be safe .

Could you let me know which parts you got for the tesla calipers and pantera controls? Also where you got it? Thanks! Working on a parking brake solution now.

then I belive I found the rear tesla calipers, one for each side on ebay, here is an example , i did replace the motors before installing it
Thanks! I’ve been looking on the Pantera site for their controllers and see you can use the handbrake or a switch. Also checked out the Wilwood EPB which looks similar to the Tesla, maybe a little smaller. We’re you able to modify the RCR bracket to hold the new caliper or did you have to fab one up?

ibileve I used the RCR bracket that attaches to the upright , used same boths and holes ,=but had to creat the bracket that the caliper attaches to, I bieve Cam had a drawing of sorts and I used a thick aluminum plate to make it. I will have to look at my blog for details

Thanks for the help!! I’m going to read your entire blog to gain more insight into other problems!! I tried searching for the Cam you mentioned in the post about getting the dimensions for the brack but couldn’t find a Cam with any brake posts??

here is Cam's website, it is super helpful, but does not have any information on the tesla calipers mounting brackets.

I found the email where Cam sent me the file of the caliper munting bracket , if you want it, you can pm me your email and I will send you the file
