question on mounting the coil

is there any "magic" number for length of the coil wire to the distributor? Or is it just " shorter is better"?

I would like to mount the MSD blaster coil about 3 feet (coil wire length) away from the MSD distributor.

Is this distance reasonable -

I'm using 8.5mm MSD ignition wire.

Thanks

I've had the same experience as Dean. One of our race cars has a 2.5 ft run and has for 3 years, no issues other than where to zip tip the lead.

On my old SCCA American Sedan Camaro I used a total of 5' of coil wire to go from the coil mounted on the floor of the passenger side to a Bulkhead pass-through and from there to the distributor. No problems and coil was not subjected to the heat under the hood. Mind you I was using very good MSD Spiral core 8.5mm wires.. The Coil was an Accel Super-Coil and it was fired by an MSD-7AL.

Thanks everyone,

Big-foot, I've done similar things with older systems, just not the MSD stuff.

I'm using the MSD spiral core 8.5 - blaster coil and MSD 6AL box - so, it's going to be 3" away just to make things similer for mounting and not so crowded around th bulkhead area.

Thanks again

Dave
