R.I.P Mrs. Thatcher

It's the old 'special relationship' in action again. Kissy kissy when your administration wants some support on Global issues, bugger all when they don't. I know a few girls like that! ;)

Bullshit in, bullshit out.

That article's title doesn't match what is written in it. Try again. Read who the President actually sent to Thatcher's funeral versus who was sent to Chavez's.

Independent thinking is important here!

I was not surprised by this. Obama is committed to the "redistribution of wealth". Ms Thatcher, bless her heart, said that "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money." A very smart and perceptive lady.

Mrs. Thatcher was a Head of State, not a two bit dictator that hated the US. We should have atleast had Biden attend Mrs Thatcher's funeral.

Biden would have taken the opportunity to say something stupid. We're embarrassed enough by all this as it is.

The official executive branch delegation to the Thatcher funeral consisted of former Secretaries of State George Schultz and James Baker, former U.S. Ambassador to Britain Louis Susman, and U.S. Charges d’Affaires to the U.K. (and acting ambassador) Barbara Stephenson. The official executive branch delegation to the funeral of Hugo Chavez consisted of the Charges d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, a Congressman, and a former Congressman.

When Mr. Reagan died in 2004, Lady Thatcher attended his funeral services along with Prince Charles and Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie. Sadly, Lady Thatcher herself was not paid the same respect by the Obama Administration. It should be noted the most senior one of the Obama administration representatives to Mrs. Thatcher's services are the acting ambassador the others are certainly not from the current administration.

But then Mr. Obama only measures his interest in the lens of the upcoming mid-terms. One cynically could argue that to simply pander to the Latin vote, he rendered tribute to Mr. Chavez at his funeral and undocumented British immigrants don't vote in big numbers.
While the U.S. House of Representatives will be sending a delegation, Sen. Bob Menendez, Democrat, tried to block a senate resolution honoring the late Mrs. Thatcher. Classy, really classy...

I guess that really says it all and once again I find myself apologizing to our forum members across the Atlantic.

Ok, that's your opinion (and I don't disagree with it completely), but let's at least get the facts straight.

The HEADLINE on that article and your post would lead someone to believe (and in fact I think you did believe) that the President had sent a delegation to Chavez's funeral and not Thatchers or that the emissaries to Chavez's funeral were of higher rank than those at Thatcher's.

Neither of which was true.

I guess that I was wondering why we sent anyone to Chavez's funeral, with his great love of the US. There are plenty of washed up actors and basketball players to do that. It's not like they are going to close all the Vallero gas stations and US refineries.
