RamLift - bleeding the system

What steps are needed to bleed air out of the Ramlift system that installed on an SL-C? The car arrived with all of this installed, but its sat for 3 years. Yesterday we fired the car up for the first time and were testing various things and noticed that the pump was making some loud noises when trying to raise it and when you would hit the down button it would just burst air into the reservoir.

Also, the fluid in there is red and I am assuming RCR used ATF?

I was reading through those this morning and either im blind or I just missed where they explain how to fill the system! lol

Also, I was watching one of Allan's videos and he has the lift system mounted towards the upper shock mount. Looks like he turns the shock upside down?

It was 11 years ago so who knows.

The ones on this car are mounted on the lower, does it matter?

Yeah, I’ve seen them mounted both ways. I think I read somewhere, QA1 shocks can be mounted either up or down. Apparently that is not the case with all adjustable shocks.

I believe this car has the penske shocks on it. I'm going to work on it when I get home.

Just spoke with penske and ram lift. This entire system can be mounted either way. so I just need to bleed the system some more and maybe adjust the pressure.

Most builders orientate the cup to the top for less unsprung weight. Also there is less flex in the hydraulic hose feeding the cup.

Well it's gonna stay how rcr installed it. Also it all works now. Simple pressure adjustment! Guy at ram lift was great in telling me was it most likely needed.

Late to the discussion, but.. I have mine upside down.

1. Allows the system to be easily bled
2. Allows Springs to be changed without removing top of the shock (getting that bolt out requires removing too much stuff)
3 Easier to adjust pre-load
