Recieved a Shelby signed check as a gift. Can someone educate me on the history...

I received an authenticated check signed by Carroll Shelby to GT Midgely. Have tried to research the link between Shelby and GT Midgely race cars, but haven't had any luck. Hoping someone here can help.
