Renault 369 gearbox

Hi i'm a new to this forum,I've just bought a Renault 369 gearbox. I'm putting a Rover KV6 engine in my Hillman Imp and fitting a the 369 box onto it. I was woundering if anyone has ran their gearbox upside down and if it worked.

You dont need to run the gearbox upside down. Just take the case apart and turn the crownwheel/pinion and diff assembly around the other way. You will find on the inside of the bellhousing there is casting depressions in it so the crownwheel will clear the housing. It was used in the Alpine cars, that have the same engine/gearbox orientation that you are looking at using, so really, no problem. Oh yes, just one - you wont have a speedo drive as it is driven off the diff. May have to to to an electric unit.

Hi ?
I have had an inverted box in my 40 since I built it way back. Mine is a 369 like yours and yes it works fine. Bruce is correct about reversing the diff if you want/need to. It depends what is relevant to your setup. If you decide to invert it you will need to change the breather position. I cant remember everything I did so will have to check. I originally went over the top with an oil pump and cooler but it wasnt needed and I dont have it fitted any more. Best of luck, Kev.

I hope yu have the cooling sorted - as those KV6 engine are notorious for HGF. Almost as bad as the K1.8 lumps. The tend to run very hot and suffer from cavitation, particularly on engine shut down. ensure you have a EWP, to ensure water movement after switch off.

Hi me again,
Thanks for the help, The Imp is going to have its v6 mid mounted, when looking in at the rear end it was going to have its drive shafts at too much angle up towards the wheels, so now that i know ican reverse the diff it means i can turn the gearbox upside down and straighten out the drive shafts.
I like the look of the six speed convertion for the gearbox, anyone know what price these are? i will need to do somethind with the gearing, im only on 13" s and the KV6`s dont like to rev past 7000 unless you go for the steel crank and rods. I was not aware the they can have heating problems though, We built and work on a Dax rush which has a 320 bhp 2.5 in it, very good engine i thought, low 90kgs and a good bit of grunt, my Imp weights 560kgs (when it was a imp engine and box) and with the work im going to be doing and the amount of carbon fibre i intend to use i`m hoping to be around the same weight.
So i need to change the gearing (1st and 2nd) or might go the 6 speed, also a LSD and what bell housing i will use and take it from there.
BTW I got to race a Ford owned GT 40 at Shelsley walsh in 2003, quite a beast, old hard tyres, old wooden brakes and a engine with soooo much grunt on a damp track was fun to say the least, But wow what a toy, I have always loved a GT40 and some day if a stop playing around with my racing cars i will have one.
there are some pictures of the GT on my web site in the gallery, videos of some of my races aswell as my wee IMP http://www.electricracing.co.uk/

if its a late model KV6, then they were reworked by by some company when BMW owned them. as far as i know the KV6 was designed after BMW took over rover, and dosnt suffer HGF any more than any other V6

i may be wrong though

i own a MG ZT 190 (190 bhp KV6)

If you are worried about gearing, get a Renault 21 turbo box (UN1-13) as they have a 3.44 diff ratio instead of the 3.89 you have in the 369.
