roll centre

A question

I have noticed it mentioned in 2 of several books on suspention about the roll centre moving latteraly across the vehicle.
But no explanation.

I keep thinking about it but cant see how this can happen as RC is a height only measurement calculated from the IC to the to the centre of the tyre patch.
The RC will move up or down as the arms (unequal length)go through travel.

Or am I missing something

Jim it's not the RC that moves laterally, it's the IC otherwise known as the effective swing axle length.

Hope that clarifies.

Cheers
