Any ideas on who i should approach for an FIA compliant roll cage.
Not decided wether 4 or 6 point at the mo. Really wanted to have a chat
with someone first. On the same subject, what are people's thoughts about the chances of it punching through the sponson, even with thick mounting plates welded to sponson top face, into the fuel tanks.
I don't fancy risking being a human rotisserie !

From what i understand about the regs, you have to go to TRW or Caged to have a special approved. The general load requirements from memory require it to withstand a 7g impact downwards and 5g fore and aft.

The funny thing is that the mounts to the chassis have to be one of the approved methods, say for example 4mm plate welded to the hoop and bolted to the chassis, but, the chassis area that the cage mounts to is not taken into consideration. They test the cage in isolation.

I believe that they can approve cages based on FE analysis of a CAD file.

To answer your question i guess that Caged or someone at TRW are the people to consult with.

It is difficult to the regs to fit older cars like ours exactly. I spoke with just about every competitor and organiser/scrutineer I could find. The best way is to copy a cage design in a similar car that already runs in FIA events with a documented declaration pointing to that design and quoting the chassis number etc of the already compliant car as your basis.

I had to go that route with my P4, citing 0844 as the referenced cage design.

Hi Andy. Try Webster Race Engineering. Even tho they build drag cars they do a lot of FIA work and are very good. Pete.

Talk to the Roll Centre in Ely Cambs. they made my front, rear & roof bars to my spec
