Security Warning Indonesia

Strong chance of a major breach of security in Indonesia/Malaysia and especially Bali and possibly Jakarta.
Intelligence suggest the area is now aproaching "Critical" state and will be attacked by terrorists aligning themselves with Islamic State jihadists in the Middle East and Africa.
Briefing also says avoid any travel to the area and if you area already there, think about leaving. Expect very long delays at Airports due to enhanced security.

The head of MI5 warned yesterday that Al Qaeda is plotting spectacular ‘mass casualty’ attacks against Britain.
Targets of the resurgent group – which is directing British-based fanatics from overseas – include airlines or a Mumbai-style gun and bomb atrocity.

0800 789 321 is the Anti Terrorism Telephone Hotline in the UK.
The Special Air Service will take over the control of the Security Service from the MI5 led Police Security Service with Military back up that we currently have. This was D notice until midnight and should /will become public knowledge by probably 12:00 on Sunday 11th January. MI5 and MI6 will continue and brief the new Security Service and the the Terrorist Assessment authority (who issue the security levels as and when they change). The last time UK went to ' Critical' was when the airport in Glasgow was attacked by car bombers. I expect the UK to go 'Critical' again by Monday morning.
Please be careful anywhere in the UK and remember the number above.

Here is the latest French Briefing especially if you are planning to join in the march later today.
Terrorism
There is a high threat from terrorism..

Attacks could be indiscriminate. Due to ongoing threats to France by Islamist groups, and recent French military intervention against ISIL, the French government has warned the public to be extra vigilant and reinforced its own domestic and overseas security measures. Previous incidents, attributed to Islamist extremists, have included the shooting of 3 soldiers and 4 civilians in Toulouse, and a knife attack on a soldier near Paris.

The French authorities are treating the attacks on 20 December 2014 in Tours, the shooting on 7 January 2015 at the ‘Charlie Hebdo’ offices in Paris and the shooting on 8 January in Montrouge as terrorist incidents.

There have been a number of explosions, failed explosions and other attacks in Corsica. Government buildings, restaurants, police vehicles, bars, a discotheque and holiday homes have been targeted. The authorities believe the Corsican nationalist group the FLNC are responsible, and have warned that attacks could escalate.

There is considered to be a heightened threat of terrorist attack globally against UK interests and British nationals, from groups or individuals motivated by the conflict in Iraq and Syria. You should be vigilant at this time.

Fuck. This is like waiting for the action to start.

Apparently from last Saturday, all ports and airports have now come up to maximum security-which by a process of deduction means they were not at maximum prior to that date. The security think tank have left the level at Critical until their next meeting at the end of the week unless the COBRA is called on for a meeting.
Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, a policeman , has said he does not think we will be attacked whereas MI5 say the opposite and an attack within the UK is imminent. There are at least 150 known Jihadists in England at the moment.
That is just the ones they know !!!
Hogan- Howe is a bit of a tosspot.

Cobra relates to the acronym for Cabinet Office Briefing Room A which is where the Cabinet meet to discuss actions in the event of an attack - often anywhere in the world and not just in the UK.

Hate to be picky David, but threat level remains at "Severe". It has not been upgraded to "Critical" as of yet.

Hogan-Howe seems/is at odds with Andrew Parker the MI5 chief.
Parker is now seeking new powers after Paris magazine attack as part of the UK security and counter-terrorism set up.
Andrew Parker describes Charlie Hebdo outrage as 'a terrible reminder of the intentions of those who wish us harm'
I think Hogan-Howe will be outed quite shortly as he is trying to retain power and control of the Security Services instead of the SAS led organisation that Parker favours.
If MI5 says Critical but H-H says not, but he then beefs up security at ports and airports to levels, was it adequate before at Severe level? Stranger and stranger.
H-H is running scared for his job.

The worst I ever saw was on 12 September 2001. Got to work to see a tank parked on the grass in front of the airport. The next worst was a few years later during the whole liquid bomb plot thing. Doing the walk round and see a child's teddy going up the luggage belt into the hold, with an airport luggage tag wrapped around its leg. Took a few minutes out to wonder what the world was coming too, still don't know.

Don't think we're there yet.

As far as aviation in the UK is concerned, the treat level is still severe.

Indeed Jon,
Still severe for the whole country and Politician Theresa May, with her speech yesterday, suggests it should be higher.
