SLC Outside Build Price

Thinking about having a nice SLC built by one of the great builders out there. I hear a lot about Alan Zakari's builds. I looked up his Youtube page and he has built some nice looking SLC's. Does anyone know how much that could cost since I am not a tech, I just dont have that skill set but I love these cars. Ball park as I understand added quality options pushes the price up in terms of the parts and labor. I was shocked to see one of his recent builds go for $129,000. it looked really nice so that price surprised me. I did a cost estimate on the RCR website and the parts alone without other items was already at $86,000. No interior, No engine as well as other items needed. Last I heard was a 2 to 3 year wait on a custom build. Just hear say so I am new to this forum and thought I would ask. If its been covered a lot just point me to the thread and ill search again.

I recommend you take the time to drive or ride in an SLC for 2 reasons: 1, figure out if this car is for you. 2. what options are a MUST for you depending on how you are going to use it, Track? street? interior refinement? and so on.
It is loud, competely impractical, no storage, super low to the ground, much more raw than pretty much any OEM exotic. It is a true race car not really a street car.
Furthermore you need to understand this is more of a prototype than an OEM vehicle, things will break, need adjustments until all is well sorted out. If you just drive to car shows that's probably not a problem, if you really want to drive it it will need some TLC so you better have a mechanic you trust to work on it.
I am just trying to be honest and helpful , most cars get driven very little before they change hands for the above reasons.
I have driven my car close to 8k miles in a year but I am a complete outlier. I dont have power brakes, power steering, but I have tons of sound and heat insulation, which is a must for a street driven car. However it adds quite a bit of weight. Not ideal for track use.
The more informed you are the happier you will be with your decision.
Good luck.

for the money I would get an Ultima RS. Allan has built both, and he would be able to give you really good quality input

I looked at both , some people prefer the Ultima. I don't care for the design or the interior at all. It is a much better sorted kit so the end product quality will be more uniform on the ultimas for sure. The ultima is definitely on the same ballpark performance wise. I think the kit itself is more expensive than the SLC, and not sure about the latest tariffs, but likely a lot less lead time, But I agree with Rob, definitely worth looking at an Ultima as an option.

thank you. I agree with your comments 100%. I should have mentioned I was considering another SLC. I currently own an SLC and yes It has been a wi

I have heard that the build quality is outstanding, everything comes packaged and clearly marked. The build manual is outstanding, and it just seems like everyone that I have talked to that has built one has really enjoyed the build.

I do agree it's not the sexiest car, but it does handle.

Sorry hit the wrong button before. I currently own an SLC. was considering another one in the future. I heard Alan had great builds so I was gathering info. My car is Will Cambells build and it is an older model. I have done a lot of work to it since I purchased it in 2023. I just now have the car at a point to where I can enjoy it for a while. I dont track but I love to drive it and go to car meets and shows. For me nothing matches the looks of the SLC unless you spend 1% money which i dont have. I looked at the Ultima and the Rhino recently but for me the SLC is the one. I was shocked to see a new build by Alan go for $129,000. Not good in my opinion. I have way more than that in my car at this point but it gives me what I am looking for in every way. Yes, its loud and raw but what an amazing driving experience and I have driven many super cars.

Yea, resale values on SLC's typically suck -- not just Allan's builds. Regardless of how well you build it, the market is so small for someone who actually appreciates the build AND wants it set up the way it happens to be built (since you can go so many directions with these cars). There have been several well under $100K with people taking a bath even just on the parts. Unfortunately, the wider market still has the stigma of the SLC being a 'kit car' even though it really isn't.

Yes the “kit car” label comes up often. Yes it’s a component kit but it has so much that is purpose built. I’ve noticed wealthy people lose interest quickly when they realize it isn’t a Big Brand name car. They barely look inside. They look at it like it’s a “thing” or something. I don’t care, built right these are amazing cars. I have been to a few shows with 7 figure cars. The SLC demands attention. I do you get tired of being an asked “How much do these cost” because it’s such a hard question to answer I know what it would take to build a car like mine but I also realize there are a lot of builds out there so I always feel kind of weird trying to answer that. I never even worried about the kit car crap because to me this isn’t what I think of as a kit car that has borrowed parts like the chassis for example
