SPF vent rearview camera

I am considering what looks like a roof vent such as the one used on chassis #1010 to house the camera. This style will also allow me to include a brake light, and still function as a vent. I’ll probably smooth out the shape a bit, but maybe not.

I have decided to go with an Auto Vox

Hoping I can find away to make the black plastic cover look like stainless steel. Maybe a wrap, or just paint.

Looks like this thread has been neglected so here is something new. I'm trying to gauge interest in a SPF roof vent camera mount I'm designing. I'm looking for input as the the design is in its early stages. Right now I'm printing a few prototypes to see what I like on my car. The base is a little bigger than the opening and will need to be trimmed, drilled, and painted. My camera lens is 3/4" so that's what the opening is right now. On the car the top should sit flat with the car. Right now there are no internal camera supports but they can be added. If you have a special need I might be able to make a one off. Please let me know what you think. Next trick is to make a replacement for the plastic roof vent itself. Mine has several holes that are no longer needed. I may just make a piece that snaps in with a dome light.

I am going to make a similar pod for the camera, but also include a brake light. I am also hoping to make it so it can be lowered by hinging the front such that it disappears when the car is parked.

That's where I am right now. Finished printing a second prototype a few minutes ago. Great minds and all that. Let me know what you come up with.

The brake light is a great idea. With the SPF louvers the red LED's shine through great. I'd like to add a circuit the flashes them a few times before going solid in the current project. Might get the attention of more people. I'll try paint the underside of the louvers white or chrome to see what works best. Yes not DOT approved but how's checking.

I am thinking to use a motorcycle smart brake module (accelerometer-based brake light system). These devices illuminate the brake light when decelerating due to engine braking, downshifting, etc. They use a multi-axis accelerometer (often combined with a gyroscope for more precise motion sensing) to detect changes in velocity.

I would use that system only in parallel with a standard brake light switch. When stopped at a light, I like to have my "stationary-ness" easily noticed.

I didn't have to look too far to find exactly what I was looking for. This unit will flash the brake light a few times, then go solid. I will only use it in the roof-mounted vent camera.
